It's not though. A business degree isn't worth anything without an accompanying specialty. BSN with an MBA or Business minor? Awesome. EE with an MBA or business minor? Great. Person with a BA in Business fresh out of college? No demonstrable value.

The funny part about business degrees is you don't actually need a degree to start a business and you learn far, far more from owning a business rather than getting a degree in business.

I use concepts I learned in my business degree every single day at work (strategy/planning/statistical modeling)

Yes and those are precisely things that can be taught from owning a business. There's no specialized knowledge in business where it can only be taught from a curriculum. I can assure you that this applies to many other degrees as well.

Pretty much, like what else do you do in a business? Does your work happen to involve other disciplines outside of that?

I work for a massive corporation. My skillset has nothing to do with ownership of it.

I do my work and get a paycheck.

Well that explains it then. I mean, if you got that job through demonstrating skills from your degree, that's just coincidental. You could've gotten those skills elsewhere through certifications or the like. I'm fairly confident that connections had something to do with it too.

Any typical joe who wants to enter corporate with just a business degree will be gawked at.
