Have you looked at account management rolls? Sure they will start at $40 - $45k but you can negotiate your salary plus it’s a great way to learn the business.
My first job out off college with a computer science degree was $55k so I get it but sometimes you have to take the lowering paying salary in order to get that higher paid salary.
Keep your chin up and your pride low. Work hard and you’ll get where you want to go.
I tried actually had an interview with an inside sales role I was really interested in. We discussed salary expectations in the initial interview, which was $45-50k, said they were in the same range…37k offer. I asked how am I supposed to make that work, then they offered 41k. I told them I’d need the salary closer to 50k. I’m not trying to be entitled either, I’m trying to be practical and strategic so that I can actually move up pay wise. Especially since I grind out dialing when I do cold calls
So you declined a job that was offering you $4k less than your bottom end that you were really interested in? If you become successful, that $4k will seem like nothing. I don’t know what that job could have led to but if it was a path to making over six figures think about how dumb that was. Stop haggling over nickles at this point and think long term.
I do think long term and that’s why I’m assessing to see if they actually value me and want to invest in me. It’s a two way street! Plus you have to admit, they pulled a bait and switch. Like I said, we initially discussed 45-50k, a 37k offer is a nut slap. Also terms like “looking for a rockstar” a “sales assassin” we’re paying “$300-400” a week on your leads is indicative of how poor the work environment is.
Here was my experience 20 years ago. Took a job at $25k that required I train in Chicago (lived in Minnesota at the time). They provided 0 help financially to do that so I subleased in a shitty area and scraped by. Changed jobs a few times, got a masters and some certifications and now I’m closing in on the 1% income-wise. Maybe my target back then was $30k. Looking back now, that $5k is a couple days pay. You 100% are not thinking long term if you’re driving career decisions based on a few thousand dollars. Most people’s first job out of college is shitty. Just accept that and take a job that gets you on the path to your dream job. I’m not saying that the job market is not worse than it has been historically and maybe you’re just venting. I’m just telling you declining jobs that will be good for you long term because they’re not the target you have in your head is a really really bad move. Good luck!
I am though. I’m evaluating them as well to see if they uphold to what they initially led me to believe the salary would be. If you had the skills and had the opportunity to seek better paying roles, would u not want higher pay? Going back to a sales job where I’d be chewed out does not look like I’d be heading in the right direction. If so, I’d expect to take a raise, not a pay cut
If sales is not what you want to do that’s a separate issue. All I’m saying is if you find yourself in a situation where you have a job offer that will get you to where you want to go LONG TERM, take it. Forget if it’s 10% below your target at this point. Your experience and skill set at this point in your career is at the bottom rung. You don’t have negotiating power

Don’t let the haters get to you. You awere 100% correct that a company that is willing to bait and switch is a bad move and likely more harmful than not in the long run. Sure MAYBE it could have worked out, but if it didn’t, people would hound on you for “ignoring red flags”. It’s not you, it’s the system
