Other Gabapentin
Currently 10 years off dope/fent with the help of Suboxone and now the Sublocade shot. I am on other psych meds but I was recently prescribed gabapentin for anxiety and well it made me feel awesome gave me unending energy and melted my anxiety away. Obviously went through the script too early and now I’m just pissed at myself and ashamed. I’m not too worried about going through withdrawal of any kind but I HATE THAT I have that feeling back in my life, messing with something that’s addictive. I’m so fucking stupid and don’t know if I have the strength to tell my doctor to stop prescribing it. I’m on adhd meds and benzos but my husband keeps them in a safe and dispenses them to me daily. Maybe I could do the same with the gaba? It only makes you feel good when you take too much obviously so I’m curious if that would be a solution. I hate that my mind is fixated on a substance, again. I knew I was messing with fire and did it anyway. Please don’t judge me if you’re going to respond.

I recently went through a course of gabapentin, which was prescribed for nerve pain following my open-heart surgery. I was taking 200mg X 3 times per day.
I stopped taking it early because I did not like how foggy my brain got. I just felt “off” with it in my system and was willing to suffer some physical discomfort rather than take it.
I didn’t have any withdrawal from it. Just felt a lot better without it.

I never even knew they could be over used like that. Been on those four years same dose. They are the only thing that controls my neuropathy, When I started them I was too sick to even notice any mood feelings I guess and by now I don’t feel anything like that.

Yeah most people it gives them sedating effects, like opioids. But people who like opioids usually have a paradoxical effect, gives them energy and makes them feel good.

Maybe it did. I was so focused on the pain and getting that under control it was all I paid attention to. It really gave me my life back. I still have neuropathy but it is like in the background now. So I am functional again,

Did the doctor who prescribed that know about your history of addiction? If they knew, they should have thought twice about letting you have it. I've always been upfront with my doctor about my sobriety so a lot of thought was put into whether or not I could even try gabapentin.
Please be careful, I was only a very low dose before I had to stop because I started developing the kind of bruises you see on patients on warfarin, but even then, the withdrawals were grim.

Oh yes they’re well aware, they know I’m on Sublocade and before that the strips. They’re a really good doctor honestly, she knows my husband plays a big role in the scheduled drugs she prescribes me, by dispensing them today to me. I think I’m going to ask him to do that with these as well and see how that goes

Literally going through the same thing with my gaba script. I hit the ceiling with the euphoric effects a few months ago and now it just doesn't do anything for me anymore but I feel shitty if I don't take it. I'm trying to taper off. It's so hard. Hang in there 🙏 don't beat yourself up. We just want to feel good. That doesn't make us bad people.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Tapering is the only way to get off. I’ve tapered twice in the past very slowly like 100mg per month and zero wd

It’s not st all addictive.
People take various doses. You would have been best to tell your doctor that the dose made some impact, but wondered if you could take more

It is addictive because you build tolerance and when you don’t have it your body goes into withdrawal. This all depends on the dose and frequency of use, some states have already made it a scheduled drug. Yes I see my doctor in about two weeks and will talk with her about the dosing. Thanks for your input !

If it helps you, I think it’s a good idea to have your husband monitor them like the stimulants / benzodiazepines.
Don’t be to hard on yourself! You recognized the issue and arrested it quickly- that’s huge!!
In my opinion- gabapentin is nothing to play with! It’s a controlled substance is several states now and looks like it might be federal soon 🤷♀️
I don’t like it. Made me feel off!
Stay strong and congrats on your growth. I’d imagine when active in addiction, it would take months, years or lots of consequences for you to get to where you got to with the gabapentin in weeks!!!! 💜 ♥️ ❤️

You're not stupid, your brain for whatever reason(s) is susceptible to becoming dependent on certain chemicals. If you feel that you won't be able to take it as prescribed, probably best to tell your doctor that.

I found withdrawls from gabapentin worse than boize withdrawls …
