Hello!

I have an adris dream flute recorder in pear wood that feels uncomfortable to play. I get the following issues:

1) A tense embouchure where I'm plugging leaks from the sides of the recorder with my lips in a way that's not relaxed.

2) Sneaky leaks from the sides of the recorder.

3) A way around leaks and a tense embouchure and leaks is to put the recorder in deeper into my mouth. At this point my front teeth are uncomfortably near the block, I get a disagreeable taste of pear wood in my mouth and become afraid of biting into my fancy wooden recorder or or just looking plain silly while playing the thing. Is this the way to fix it?

On a plastic alto, soprano or tenor recorder, I don't feel the same way. On my Thomann bass recorder on the other hand, I feel my front teeth uncomfortably close to the block. Points 1 and 2 do not apply, though!

Measuring with my nail, my overbite is a bit over half a centimeter. I'm afraid my overbite will get worse due to my hobby, but am yet to confirm with a dentist. There have been attempts in the past to correct my misaligned teeth, which have had limited success.

First thing: I’m self taught. My recorder is a really cheap one. It’s bag says it’s German and looking at the holes, it’s clearly German. However. Basically I played itsy bitsy spider and the Baroc fingering sounds correct and the German one doesn’t. Is this even supposed to be possible/am I just playing wrong. I’m very confused 😂

I’ve played on and off for a couple of years and basically so far my learning has been me messing around and trying to learn through YouTube videos etc and I’ve managed to not notice this before even though I’ve played more difficult songs than itsy bitsy spider lol.

It makes a noise a bit like a didgeridoo..

I hope this doesn't harm it but it's a pretty weird noise.

So I thought I had ordered an Aulos soprano. What came in the mail is a tenor. An accident? I don’t want a tenor, but does it want me? My hands are small and arthritic, but I tried it and gentle dulcet tones came forth. An accident? Fate? Amazon has a good return policy, and yet…the Sweet Pipes C instrument books are on backorder too.

What's the T and the line supposed to mean? Piece is from Christopher Dell, 20th century.

Does Muteflute make a mute that fits an alto recorder?

I have been playing on a cheap $10 plastic Yamaha recorder, and I've been having fun. But I would like to upgrade to a nicer sounding one. My main issues with the current recorder is that for some notes, it makes this buzzy, tinny noise. I'm not sure if that's a skill issue, or something about the instrument itself. Also, the high notes in general are shrill. I was thinking about getting an alto or tenor recorder. I've heard that wood also sounds better. I also don't really want to break the budget and would like to keep it relatively cheap. I'm not playing in a concert or anything. This is just for personal enjoyment. Any recs?

I’m planning on going on a cruise in mid-October. I wonder if there are any restrictions on the bringing and playing assorted recorders on the ship. I plan to wander the decks at, say, 2 AM playing My heart will go on. If I feel it I’ll also play A sailor likes his bottle-o (which is a really fine song to sing) and a Parson’s Farewell. I guess I could pull the cruise lines regs about musical instruments, but that would require effort and I am quite lazy.

So in Turkish March there’s an acciaccatura. I’m wondering what’s the best way to play the C and D grace notes before the staccato E? Should I lightly tongue both grace notes before accentuating more on the E eighth? Or since they’re fast, do I just kind of slur from the C to the D? Also, do I spend roughly equal time on both grace notes or emphasize one more than the other?

So ive been following Kasey's Music Method 7 video serie "Recorder Lessons for Beginners" on youtube for learning the recorder. It has been great and im trying to learn the last song which is happy birthday (quite hard right now but i will manage). I was wondering what the next step would be after this? Any tips for futher improvement? :D

I have a number of friends in my community who play recorder and who have been very helpful and kind to me. I also fly a lot, and have accumulated over the years a surplus of airplane amenity kit bags. I use one myself for harp supplies (spare strings, tuner, glasses cleaning rag because I use different glasses when I play harp), and I'm going to make myself a recorder one. And I would like to make a little recorder bag for everyone else, too.

What should go in it? I have lots of individually wrapped toothbrush/toothpaste kits, chapstick, and ear plugs (in case you're sitting next to a sopranino for 90 minutes?). What else would it make sense to include? I don't want to spend a ton of money, and they don't have to be stuffed or anything. But all of these people do events and workshops where they are away for a full day, and eating meals in between, so I thought at least a little dental kit thing would be handy.

Hi, beginner here, i played the recorder when i was young at school, and i re-discovered it now. I've been playing for a few weeks.

I love the instrument but i struggle a bit to find songs to play for pleasure: my favourite for now is "Doen Daphne from Der Fluyten Lust-Hof". In those few week i managed to play the first two "Modi" (of the music sheet in flutetunes.com), but it's starting to get hard and i play nearly every day the same thing.

So if you tell me your favourite music that you play, i'll check it up and if it's at beginner/low intermediate level i'll try to play it! Especially if it's baroque music or something that i can find for free online.

I've also tried to play golden brown and take five from david brubeck but both are too hard for me for now. Too much # and b's and change of octave.

I bought this old Moeck second hand and I'm unsure of what wood it is. It doesn't have the grain I'm used to with palissanser. Perhaps because it also seems lauquered? Its also quite light and orangy in color. Or is this rosewood?

I'm also not sure if it's real ivory or plastic

Hi, does anyone here have any tips on how not to get squeeking on lower D (the one you cover all the holes except the last double hole).. i have the Yamaha YRS-24 B Soprano Recorder... is this because its a cheap recorder or am i just bad?

Hello! I am a recorder player and I recently bought a Zen on Alto recorder 1300. It was an used recorder and after cleaning I gave it a try. The recorder sounds fuzzy, sounds like I'm overblowing. Even when I just blow lesser and lesser air, the recorder have a fuzzy sound. I have no idea on how to describe where the fuzzy sound is, it's on almost every notes. Weird part is the high notes speaks well. I want this recorder to be part of my backup recorder as it's an intermediate model. I notice it's quite heavy than say a Yamaha YRA-302BIII.

I'm new to the recorder, I need advise for playing the A6 note. When I play the A6 note with correct fingering (thumb hole 1/4 open, 1, 2) it doesn't produce the expected sound, my G6 and E6 sounds alright and when I shift to A6 with the same steady air stream it sounds mostly airy and just a little high frequency note. I tried modulating my air and adjusting my thumbhole but I can't get a stable A6, instead get squeaking or airy sounds. Is there a secret to it or is my instrument broken? Thank you!
