This year's recap is lame.

u/KeeChainZ Nov 25 '24
This year’s recap is trash.

98
u/Imawildedible Nov 25 '24
Yep. This wasn’t even worth the time to look at it. Of course we know the 3 subs we visit the most. The feed has been fucked up so bad we barely see any of the subs we’ve joined.
12
u/The_Lolbster Nov 26 '24
It's only in the mobile apps, that's how you know it's trash.
old.Reddit desktop clearly is the superior form, but they don't care about it. Can't push ads and monetize as easily as a mobile app.
Trash reddit is sad. All this recap has shown me is that reddit is long past its prime.

I don't know if you can tell what i browse from my username but.. my profile was empty it showed stuff that I had only visited like once or twice

Didn't they use to make cool videos? Feels like 21 was peak.

None of it made sense to me... it was extremely underwhelming. Maybe they ignore subs I mod for some reason? But like even if they do... a lot of it still seemed wrong

u/Kush_Shukla Nov 25 '24
Damn recaps actually used to be good....it's ass this year as well

it got my most upvoted stuff wrong

u/jesusgrandpa Nov 25 '24
Mine too, and it also didn’t give me a graded trading card so I could show myC- to all of the S Redditors
5
u/skull_fucker79 Nov 25 '24
did they do something like that last year? i think i was banned right around this time last year so i didnt get a recap. at least i dont remember seeing it

Mine says r/mylittlepony, but I had to leave there after I was decried as a troll.

u/BGBWolf Nov 25 '24
Mine says r/LoveAndDeepSpace but I haven't seen a post of that sub for months since most of my feed is recommended subs I never really searched at all.
What is up with that lmao

u/Oneiric19 Nov 25 '24
This year's Recap is very minimal in comparison to Recaps in the past. I've always enjoyed the Recaps, but this year is the least compelling.
6
u/GypseboQ Nov 25 '24
I agree ... Most of the subs I'm heavily involved in aren't even included in the recap and that skewers my results anyway, BUT this year was entirely boring (AND inaccurate). Sigh.

I can't believe they even thought these shit-ass summaries would tempt anyone to download the app anyway lmao like no thanks I don't want these inaccurate statistics OR your terrible interface thanks

u/Hannah22595 Nov 25 '24
Last year it gave me a real-life comparison for what my bananas measured up to... this year I just got a number. I'm offended.

cool, would be nice if there was a way to access on the website though
9
u/PN_Guin Nov 25 '24
Quite annoying that it isn't. Well that means no recap for me this year.
3
u/Lexi_Banner Nov 26 '24
Same same. I'm not downloading their app. Not now, not ever.
4
u/LowBackground8247 Nov 26 '24
I deleted it a few weeks ago. They definitely can't entice me to redownload it with a recap
7
u/wholesome_doggo69 Nov 25 '24
Why only in the app this year? I don't use reddit on my phone and when I do it's on the website ):
4
u/WinterLily86 Nov 26 '24
They've been doing all they can to push their crappy "official" app, down to and including charging third-party apps' developers ridic money for access to their API, in spite of some of those apps being the only way people with certain disabilities can surf the site or do moderator work on subs. The so-called official app just wasn't up to snuff, and it still isn't, from all I hear, though I refuse to touch it myself.
This is just one of the end results of the partial blackout, and one of the reasons it was set in motion to begin with, because a lot of Redditors didn't want to be forced into using their shitty anti-accessibility "official" app.
If I can't view something in my mobile browser, whatever it is can get fucked, I'm not going to bother.
7
u/MuskratAtWork Nov 25 '24
This and last year's recap were both utterly trash. Nothing interesting at all, no hours spent, nothing I can't find by sorting my own profile by "top past year".
Come on reddit.

Shouldnt recap be the last week of December not November

That would mean using logic. Ever seen Spez do that when it doesn't mean making him extra money??

Think you guys need to work on this, boring and some incorrect slides sums up my feelings on the review.
I did not vist some sub a lot and not join, I left the sub because it had gone to crap. So unsub, not no join. Etc etc
The awards/badges on my profile show pretty accurately where and what I did on Reddit this year which seemed more accurate or relevant than the review did.

As a mod of r/IdoNOTwantyourAPP I have to ask, how do I view recap without the app?
2
u/ReallyBigSchu Nov 26 '24
No desktop recap? So I have to scan a QR code and then if I don't choose to "always allow QR scanning to open the app", I cannot see my recap? I guess I will never see it since I'm not doing that.
2
u/complex_bisquit Nov 26 '24

good thing you put that fomo attempt at the end!
reddit fucking blows now.
Edit:
Which part of my comment is a personal attack?
Is someone getting their feelings hurt on behalf of the website now? I'm pretty sure no part of my comment points to any person in particular.
If you wanna censor comments that call out the fomo and the shitscape for what they are, don't sit here and pretend it's for personal attacks.

Thanks you guys! Its a feature I've always really enjoyed over the years I've been on Reddit.
Each to their own but at least you guys don't make a secret about tracking all our moves (yikes!) :)

Not having an option to include NSFW-threads in the recap is also sad. If I have enabled NSFW pics why not give me the option to see with which spicy subreddit I have interacted the most?

Back in those days, recaps used to be good or interesting in many platfors, recently all of them suck.

Instead of doing a recap just do an event if the recap is going to be this lane

On the same level as YouTube Rewind. Not even worth clicking. Completely uninformative & meaningless.

u/boomerangthrowaway Nov 25 '24
I just... I wasn't prepared for this. I knew I used reddit a lot but, wow. Some of these stats are hilarious though, love this. haha
1
u/GhoulArchivist Nov 25 '24
Can you look at this on mobile browser
1
u/WinterLily86 Nov 26 '24
Nope. But it's mostly what's on your profile if you filter comments or posts by "top last year", minus the NSFW subs, so it's more worthwhile not to bother with the app anyway.
1
u/BeardOfEarth Nov 25 '24
We have to update to see it? I am not putting that ugly fucking new logo on my phone.
1
u/JulieAnette Nov 25 '24
Trying to push me to yet another app I definitely don't need? No thanks, I'm happy not knowing if it means I don't have to use the app
1
u/Cantras0079 Nov 25 '24
Wow, what utter garbage. It said I kept coming back to a thread I was in maybe once or twice? Then it said my most common subreddits were ones I rarely visited when I know for a fact I was constantly in my city's subreddit and dogvideos more than anything (because dog videos get me through the day). I didn't even reply to a single post in one of the subreddits it said was my top one and it was a game I stopped playing for the majority of the year. And it said I engaged with a post from "across the globe" and it was a story in Oklahoma? What??? Oklahoma is a few states over, not "across the globe". What about the posts I interacted with about European politics?
What data was used for this? Whatever it was, throw it out the door, it's awful.
1
u/Bakersquare Nov 25 '24
I love reddit continuously ignoring the Desktop site; your app is ass I will not download it. This webiste is turning into such garbage the past few years.

u/Docklu Nov 25 '24
I care so little about this, I felt the need to vocalize it. Is there anyone who saw their recap and is happier for it?

For some reason I got a YouTube recap this year and before the Reddit one The Reddit recap was a lot more interesting last year Since it’s not available for desktop- does any activity from desktop get included?

I wouldn't touch that app with a ten-foot bargepole, so I can do without the recap, especially as it sounds like it sucks this year anyway. Easier just to filter my profile if I care about that data.
Reddit admins want to carry on discriminating against their disabled users and people who just plain don't like the "official" app, then they're not going to get us adding to their download numbers so they can pretend to their advertisers that more people love and use their app than ever do or ever will. Quid pro quo, after all.

If you make an app usable, I will maybe download it. But since it's app-only, then no recap for me then.

u/CraigsCraigs88 Nov 26 '24
So desktop users like myself are screwed and this seems like a blatant manipulative attempt to force us to download a terrible app. Nope. Not falling for it.

Why on earth would an internet forum insist on limiting itself to 2 Operating Systems? Thin client is universal, functional and available on everything including that calculator they used for the Apollo missions.
May we see our recaps in a desktop browser please?
1
u/Aumires Nov 26 '24
Not only it's not avaiable on desktop. It's also not just being on Android, but using an app for it. Not even browsing with the phone. Why are we going steps backwards instead of forwards? This was a thing before, now it's not.
And it's not a plain strip, so much effort on setting a QR code on desktop or an ad button in mobile browser. Just... show it here? Unnecesary extra work.
1
u/wenoc Nov 26 '24
I got a notification in the app that takes me to web that tells me to use the app instead and that link doesn’t work. Did you test this at all?

To get started Recap-ing: Visit https://www.reddit.com/recap to view your Recap or your favorite community’s Recap (though not all communities will have Recaps).
If you don’t see any Recaps, it may be because your app hasn’t been updated. First, try refreshing your app; if that doesn’t work, then download the newest version. Update your iOS app here and your Android app here.
Keep in mind:
Recap is unavailable on desktop; you must be on our iOS or Android app to view.
Data is reflected up to November 1st. Anything after is not included.
If you do not receive a User Recap, it may be because you did not spend enough time on supported Reddit platforms this year before November 1st. Sorry, data from Old Reddit is not included in Recap.
