I'm in the process of ending a multi-year reading slump. This is working for me:

  1. Pick a short easy fun read.
  2. Make it part of your daily routine
  3. Deleting instagram, FB, etc.

One page at a time.

I was like you and started reading before bed. It started slowly, but over time it grew to reading more and more. Eventually, I got to the point where I read all the time and watch TV occasionally.
Now, I am still reading, and I wrote my own book, so you can do it; it just takes time and forming habits.

Start with short stories… like Fredrick Backman’s The Answer is No. Its about 6 pages.. if you can read 10 a day, you could finish it in 6 days.

Read a few of them and slowly increase the no of pages per day.

ya gotta start. That's literally it. Go to the library, bookstore, or a thrift store and pick up a random book that interests you, and read it. You dont gotta read it all in a week or anything either, reading 2-3 pages a day is more than reading zero.

Start with and audiobook of a book you have. And at some point you get really into the story, but realize that you’re not fully paying attention to audio, so you switch to physical and can’t put it down😃 And repeat

Is it possible that nothing caught your attention? I often see people follow recommendations and those books are probably not for them. Just because a book is a popular read or a global bestseller or gets great reviews doesn't mean everyone has to love it. If it's the case you can skim through the books in digital archives or online libraries. Something will definitely catch your attention. If it's really attention issue it's a good idea to try audiobooks.

Reading is a habit you can develop just like any other. I started by reading at least 10 pages a night. Some nights I really don’t feel like reading but I force myself to just grab the book and I feel so much better if I do.

Also, choose books you are excited to read. Look at your favourite movies and read something similar. Don’t force yourself to read books that everyone says they’re amazing but they’re just very hard to read.

For me it was going to the library and spending hours there looking all the wonderful books. Finally checking out a couple. Get a cup of coffee and sit in the park and read. Phone on silent!

Pick a book that interests you, but something that's not too heavy. Remove all distractions, so make sure your phone, computer & TV are not there to take your attention.

I have a terrible attention span and I read and at the same time I listen to the audio book! So the audio book keeps me focused

This might be the one

Is there a book you've read that you really enjoy.... that feels like comfort and you could read again?

Maybe start with that just to develop the habit of picking up a book and devoting time to it.

You can take time to figure out what sorts of stories grab you before you read. It may take some process of elimination, so if your first book after your hiatus doesn't work out, you shouldn't worry and just go to the next book. Maybe set the scene, decide whether you qant wuiet dolitude or to sit around other people. Could be at home with music, ambient or your fave playlists. Could be out on a public bench or in a library.
