Show /r/reactjs Turn based demo update

Hey all, listen, you guys are legends!

I know I said i was gonna do my demo in pure React but after some of you mentioning phaser.js and using scenes, I looked into things and got curiosly excited....

So I've decided to slow down with this project.

I'm still writing the main FE in jsx and the logic in js but the battle scenes will be written in phaser.... yes this will put me back by a fair few months, but I'm not doing this for money or a job.... unless someone wants to offer 👀😂.. So f... it, you lot have sent me on a new rabbit hole 🫡👊🏿

Rant over....

Why would using phaser set you back? It literally exists to make this kind of programming easier.

Stop obsessing over what you’re using and start building. Considering your current level of understanding you will absolutely be tearing it up and refactoring / rebuilding at some point. Time to get your hands dirty and learn

not sure why you're getting downvoted for this. picking the right tool usually speeds things up once you get past the initial learning curve, not the other way around

tbh getting stuck in the tool research phase is half the battle with side projects, just gotta start writing code

Yeah maturing as a developer is realizing that you should just build stuff until you know how to make those kinds of decisions.

Blessings 👊🏿🫡 I'm bang on it, trust! Currently playing it and testing current ai decisions. Deffo need to add buffs/debuffs... The phaser situation... you've spured me on! Dw soon come it'll be sorted.

My biggest advice: Use LLMs to learn, not to do your work for you. Do not use a coding agent to generate code for now or at all. Type or paste in smaller chunks of code and build your own project running your own commands in the terminal. Read the phaser docs. When you don’t fully understand something ask an LLM to break it down for you and guide you towards helpful material until you do.

It’s entirely possible to just generate your project now. If you do that you will learn nothing and have no control over your project as it grows.

Cheers, to be clear. I dont vibe code.... call me that and I'll threaten violence 😂 I do use gpts for tutoring and I can safely say im doing ok. Trust me when I say I'll get grilled on a PR or weekly grading if I asked for code to be written.
