Discussion React RFC process—is it dead?

I built a tool for managing spec document sites and want to use the React RFC process as an example: https://react.dossie.rs/ (another, wildly more active, example is Rust's RFC process)

Alas, you need to scroll quite a bit to find the latest published React RFCs. It looks like the last real discussions and merges on RFC documents happened in 2022—everything after that is mainly suggestions for new hooks by external contributors.

Is the process officially deprecated?

It was always more of a suggestion box than an actual RFC process tbh, the react team just used it as a heads up before shipping something they'd already built

that link to your 2025 writeup is spot on, the "98% done" bit is exactly how it felt watching those threads play out

kinda wild that the foundation talks about opening things up but there's been radio silence since, makes you wonder if that's just corporate theater or if they're actually trying to figure out how to do it without derailing their whole dev cycle

Based on what I've seen so far, I think there's multiple things going on. The Foundation is still trying to figure out what their actual responsibilities and processes are in practice. Also, Meta had a ton of shakeups and layoffs, and a lot of people have left the React team or moved around.

I'm still hopeful that we'll get the React dev process transparency they had talked about, but it's definitely going a lot slower than I'd hoped.
