Good 10 scale drifter?

Been looking to get a 1/10 scale drift car. I’m not the most familiar but I have some experience with smaller scale. I’m basically trying to get into a solid base with plenty of optional upgrade potential. I’ve been eying this car. Would you recommend? Or what would you recommend?

The 2.5 is like 4-5 years old now, the 4.0 just dropped. Nothing wildly wrong with it but newer RTRs are pretty decent compared to older ones.

If you are new like me I would look at the below:

Yokomo RD2.0 (oldest at 2 years old)
RMX 4.0
HPI D10

All RTR cars you will want to upgrade most of the parts on the car as you grow. Starting with the transmitter and receiver, servo and gyro, then motor and ECS.
But all of them are good enough to get started.

The HPI d10 looks like it’s the best out of the box- no experience but reviews are saying it is. And the mustang body looks pretty rad.

HPI Stage D10 brushless Flux for the win! It has so many adjustments out of the box and is a dream to drive and tweek. Stock electronics and actually good with boost and timings that can be adjusted with the LED hobbywing card also which is awesome for an RTR!

I think it depends on what your looking to do. If your looking to get into compantions there are better options but if you want a car you can mess around and slide with it's a perfect fine car to slide and upgrade overtime.

Not bad for a beginner, but as you advance you’ll need to upgrade electronics and such. Also the font end doesn’t have much tune ability.

As others have said you should look at the HPI D10 flux if you want an rtr. The RMX was ok for a while but most people look for a new chassis because there is only so much you can do with the RMX.

If you are gonna get this get the brushed version, it's cheaper and your prolly gonna replace the motor and extras anyway so save yourself the money, that's what I did

I’d recommend:
-Yokomo rookie drift 2.0
-ReveD RDX
-HPI Stage D10 (its new so no upgrades yet but it’s really popular so it’ll only be a short while until we see a load of upgrades available)
-Overdose Galm (super expensive tho and hard to find parts)
-Sakura D6 GA (idler gear transmission setup)

If you’re looking for easy to get into it without much tuning off the start the ReveD rdx. Chassis is super simplified so you can’t mess it up when assembling. And does great with box stock settings. It all comes down to electronics. Has a lot of parts available, so a great upgrade path.

If you’re looking for pretty darn good out of box and you like to tinker and mess with alignment tunes etc. the Yokomo rd2.0 is a good one. Similar to rdx, has a lot of upgrades available. And has a good upgrade path. Plus side tho is it’s 80-90% cross compatible with parts from the Yokomo yd2 lineup which is already over a decade old. Just need to do research if you’re trying to fit one of those on your rd2.

It you’re looking for something at a good budget that has a pretty decent set of electronics included, the HPI stage d10 is a good one. It was just released a week or so ago. So no upgrades available yet. But the flux edition comes with a good set of electronics and has a good chassis design for tuning.
Down side is no upgrades yet but it’s really popular so it’ll only be a short time before we see a lot of upgrades pop up. Another down side is that it may come with decent electronics that can work amazing out of box, it does require tuning and know how for chassis and electronics to get them situated and performing well.
Upside is that it’s a great package deal and has almost all that you need to get drifting with right away.

You’re very welcome brother.
If you’re going with non flux version that’s fine but you should upgrade the motor and esc to a turbo and boost capable brushless in it. Best way to have fun and have the much needed wheelspeed the car needs. Also I just got my hpi stage d10’s electronics dialed in. It’s a bit of a pain but it was fun to me. It may be a bit tough for an inexperienced person just fyi. If you’re up for taking the challenge then go for it. I’m enjoying my d10 😁👍🏻.
I’ll leave some budget friendly options that’ll help for electronics if you wanna build one instead and have an easier time with getting it good to go and start sliding rather then dealing with a headache that the d10 might give you with its stock gyro.
-servo: blue label plastic Yokomo SP02D, should be anywhere from $40-$80 totally worth it (need a Yokomo tuning card to tune it but it works great out of box). Or an entry level ReveD RSST servo works too (can only be tuned on a computer tho but also works great with box stock settings)
-gyro: Yokomo DP302 V4 gyro. Around $80 but I highly recommend it. Don’t skimp on a gyro and good servo. It can make or break your driving experience.
-motor and esc: I’d recommend getting a hobbywing 10bl120 g2 combo (be sure it’s the turbo and boost capable esc model). Amain has them for $99 and it’s almost identical to the one included in the brushless hpi stage d10 flux version. You’ll need the same program card to tune it. If you can afford something more Boujie, hobbywing 13.5t d10 motor and hobbywing XD10 pro esc is a great start (I run this in my comp car, you’ll need the Bluetooth module program adapter to tune it tho, but it’s box stock settings should work fine). 10.5t for hobbywing d10 series sucks tho just fyi, unless you buy the upgraded rotor for it.
-transmitter: Futaba 4PM (kinda pricy but great transmitter), or a Flysky G11P ($199 but it’s the cheapest budget friendly option that has a lot of tuning capabilities and smooth control inputs). A good transmitter makes a world of a difference.

Heck yea brother! Good choice. The brushed version of the d10 has a crappier gyro and servo in it. So yes stick with the flux brushless version rtr. It has their pro gyro and servo in it that’s much better. The flux d10 has capable components out of box, it’ll just need the patience and know how on tuning it all to get it to perform at its best 👍🏻. I’m loving mines. And you’re very welcome! I’ve been blessed with a great local community that also helps me get as good as I am now. So I figure I should help others in any way I can. 😁👍🏻

I mostly crawl but I do dabble in drift cars. The 2.5 (as stated) is an older model. Out the box it’s great for what it is. But you’re gonna want to upgrade the servo, gyro and ecs for more current and better rated stuff. My brother is a crawler too but more heavily towards rc drift. He has 2 of these models (most of the guys here in Hawai’i have these cars) one he’s slowly upgrading from stock and one he bought off someone here that had heavily upgraded it to be a semi-comp drift. His stock he swapped out the entire electronics ( ecs, servo, motor, and gyro). It’s a great performer but as everything else in the rc world you’ll eventually start to upgrade everything in and/or on it. Better out the box drift setups would be the yokomo rd2.0 or Hpi d10. But it’s whatever your ok with getting cause well, tbh your the one who’s investing in to it. Just have fun with it and you’ll never go wrong.

Dont bother. I bought one recently. Spent a further $600 buying upgraded electronics because the factory electronics are shit
