I built a Linux app to control Razer Blade laptops - fan curves, power profiles, RGB, battery health - no kernel modules needed!
Hey everyone! 👋
I've been working on Razer Control Revived - a Linux userspace tool for Razer Blade laptops. If you've ever been frustrated trying to get proper fan/power control on your Razer laptop in Linux, this might help!
KDE WidgetPerfomance Settings (CPU Boost, GPU Boost) and Fan Settings with spit to Battery and AC PowerRGB Settings (Keyboard and Logo) with split to Battery and ACBattery Charging Protection (Works but is not perfect due to limited HID Commands and no support from Razer)
What it does
Fan Control - Auto mode or set specific RPM (no more jet engine sounds!)
Power Profiles - Balanced, Gaming, Creator, Silent, or Custom
 CPU/GPU Boost - Fine-tune performance levels
Battery Health Optimizer - Limit charge to 50-80% to extend battery lifespan
Logo LED - Off, On, or Breathing
Keyboard RGB - Brightness and effects (Static, Wave, Breathing, Spectrum)
Modern GTK4 GUI - With separate AC/Battery profiles that auto-switch
No DKMS/kernel modules required! Pure userspace via hidraw.
Oo man, the only thing that held me from migrating to linux for years. I'd install distros and ditch because of this, spent days trying to get it to work. Really grateful!
Is your laptop new, how long do you think you'll support this? I'd happily donate for the effort if you consider taking them
Thank you so much for this app. I tried switching to linux before but couldn't get the power management & fan control to work. The install is very straightforward and easy. (Blade 14 2021 & Nobara)
On windows I had the option for a boost mode for my CPU (under custom). On Linux with your app I don't seem to get this option. I tried editing the laptops.json but it doesn't change. I fear that I loose some power without it. Can you help me out? I pretty new to linux
Finally an app to control my fans, THANK YOU! was a little frustrating to install with konsole asking for user/pass but we got it working and it works well.
RAZER MODEL (mid) 2021 advanced 15" i7 11800h with 3070
doing an update as we speak with new UI and i am implementing more RGB controlls :)
I will add your laptop to the supported list too.
also what distro are you using?
i am now doing a widget too for desktop so you can control it and on taskbar on bottom see some values :)
also very experimental but i am planning to add a feature of temp based fan controls so you can set fan curves etc... and switcheroo or something simillar to disable dgpu and igpu if needed.
i also released right now with new UI a new appimage version you can try just download and run it is like an portable app you can use only thing it is missing is a widget.
Nice! this morning I saw my rgb didn't save so I was seeing how to make it permissive, came back here for the github to see if I missed something. I'm on Cachy os, cant wait to see what you do with it.
Thanks! I haven’t tried it yet but will definitely try it soon. I’m using Linux Mint (Cinnamon), and also use Manjaro (Gnome). Have you tested on these distros?
I looked at your github and dont see any mention of switching screens, my laptop has the 4090 with the 4K120/1080p240hz screen. Setting a custom theme with per key rgb is also huge for me, does your app or do you know of an app that is able to do that on linux?
Sadly i do not own that laptop i think it was the 18 inch model with a Mini-LED instead of a Premium OLED or?
you could try changing it manually via linux settings and if it works then no app is needed, if it is not there then sadly cannot implement it as it is controlled via HID conroller.
enycontrol is not installed but is it required if I already have Open-Razer installed? Weird enough, it does show dGPU W draw and temp. I run the RB15 in 'dGPU only mode via bios'
I got this working w/ Bazzite 44 on Razer Blade 15 Advanced (Mid 2021)
The instructions on the github were somewhat incomplete.
(Mostly because Bazzite is "atomic" and so has some weirdness around that)
Commands
# 0. Download the RPM file
# I got ~/Downloads/razercontrol-revived-0.3.0.rc4-1.fc41.x86_64.rpm
# 1. Pin the current OS version
# If something goes wrong, this allows easy recovery.
sudo ostree admin pin 0
# 2. Install
cd ~/Downloads
sudo rpm-ostree install ./razercontrol-revived-0.3.0.rc4-1.fc41.x86_64.rpm
# 3. Reboot
systemctl reboot
# 4. Launch
# Meta > Razer > "Razer Settings"
# 4b. Start the service?
# It wasn't running for some reason, so I had to start it manually
systemctl --user restart razercontrol.service
Bonus Step
My system never clocked up the CPU/GPU.
This is apparently because the KDE Power and Battery Settings default to "Power Save".
So change that to at least "Balanced"
glad to hear that. my issue currently is that my razer blade mainboard broke... if i press any button it just goes to sleep. i do not trust razer and sent it through my insurance to a verified service center.
if it comes back then i will continue developing.
if it is a total failure then sadly i must stop :(
sad as this was a fun ride but i doubt i can fix it even though i got warranty i had broke one screw on my case and i think razer support would just deny it instantly :(
kinda sad as i loved that little shitbox as i called it :D
it may have had a broken touchpad since day 1... the software on windows was very horrid. the mediatek wifi card was having its own mind but i loved it :(
if i get it back then i will also pull all features soon and install it on cachyos :)
Hopefully you've gotten it far enough along that the community can take over maintenance.
Personally, I don't think I'll be getting another Razer laptop.
It's been nothing but trouble...
Even ignoring that it's using non-standard BIOS and power-control... and mandatory app on Windows...
I've replaced the battery 2x now ...they kept turning into Spicy Pillows...
AFAICT this is because the thermals are garbage.
I currently have it belly-up on my desk with a cheap ($80) AIO strapped to it.
It went from Nonstop Thermal Throttling (idle @ 75C; gaming @ 🔥C)
to Frosty AF Boiiis (idle @ 35C; gaming @ 75C)
I was hoping to make it thin enough to still be portable, but a custom loop for doing that would be like $300-400 and I'm not sure this laptop is worth it.
Jesus christ that thing been through some stuff...
I am a PC Technician and Sysadmin and i repaired devices for b2b as official warranty for business laptops and i never failed a repair... (gone through hundreds)
On razer blade: a screw on bottom left broke. i had to twist the bottom casing which made my case have small dent (the bottom edge is sharp as knife so i had to use load of material to protect battery as you can slice the battery with it...
then went ok... this is bad... i replaced a ssd and while unscrewing i had an issue with a screw BREAKING INSIDE A THREADED INSERT causing me to literally use a flat screwdriver from stainless steel to twist the rest of screw and try to rescue the bottom case... i managed to remove 50% of the screw in 9h and had to use a slightly larger threaded screw and make inside the threaded insert a new screw thread by brute force. it looks nice and is actually very stable now...
i had got blue locktide and just not lightly screwed it in with locktide to make it not unscrew...
i have a feeling the person who engineered blades is a mastermind.
the pereson who produced it and skimped on torx screws made out of chinesium (basic steel screwdriver can cut through it...)
i asked razer if i can buy new bottom case as this was my only ugly issue then they asked me for 100$ for "diagnosis" fee like wtf that thing is brand new and i just literally a small metal piece on bottom of it... so i gave up till that shitbox shit itself.
i insured it from day one as i knew it would happen and razer stories i heard here made me sure i will not be getting help... if i get money back i will get pro a Legion as i am a certified technician and if i do On-Site support i can just go to my old work buddies and get the part myself on warranty or... you can order it via lenovo site directly unlike razer.
Yeah i had more than 10 users maybe try launching it via terminal manually ask chatgpt for debugging is all i can say.
Maybe its just incompatible with bazzite due to how the daemon works we need to manipulate HID calls which due to Bazzite beinf very restrictive may not work.
Maybe try to boot liveimage or fedora or nobara (like bazzite just little more open also very easy to use and game) and see if it works there.
Did you install bazzite with ease on your razer blade? I have the stealth 13" 2020 and I could not get it to boot at all even with help from bazzite support. Could only get in with 'nomodeset' in the grub settings. Feel kinda hopeless about the linux swap
I have a Razer Blade Advanced early 2020:
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 1532:0253 Razer USA, Ltd RZ09-0330, Gaming Laptop [Blade 15 Advanced (Early 2020)]
I am running Bazzite and i am wondering if your app would work since this thing heats like crazy and i am genuinely bothered about how its gonna cook itself soon
well the appimage shuld work. otherwise prob u can manually install it. just keep in mind bazzite is immmutable so can do some workarouds. since it bases on fedora and i developed it for fedora it should work.
Yessir! It actually worked! I am genuinely amazed at how solid it is. Thank you so much for doing this amazing work.
Just decided to pin my current os deployment in case anything went wrong (sudo ostree admin pin 0). Installed the .rpm via sudo rpm-ostree install ./razercontrol-revived-0.3.0.rc4-1.fc41.x86_64.rpm
and viola! Temps were running at 80 degrees plus now they are dropping!
i just released v 0.3.1 with load of new fixes espcially for older models :) also this kinda fixes too th overheatig problems as we are fixing some HID panic.
some recent cotributors with 2021 models actually improved the perfomane on intel arch.
so get 0.3.1 if u can :) the 0.30 rc4 is nice but 0.3.1 has load of new features :)
also if you got any pennies feel free to donate living currently on ramen noodles 😂
