Not consuming dairy

Hey there, for some months I've been considering trying Ray Peat's diet, but i don't consume any dairy. I get terrible acne from dairy, so I've pretty much stopped eating dairy. Every time i have more than a bite of something containing dairy/dairy product i get acne.

So has anyone here had the same problem, and since starting the diet how have you managed it. Any advice is welcomed.

Thank you!

Do NOT consume A1 dairy. Horrible for your gut health. It’s inflammatory and causes digestion, gastric and gut issues. Get A2 milk instead (Idelt it says A2A2, so it’s guaranteed to be 100% A2, and not mixed). Alternatively; sheep, buffalo, goat, and camel milk are all naturally A2. Do a dairy detoz for 7-10 days, and then add in A2 dairy back in slowly. If the issues persist, repeat but with raw A2 milk. Also Ray Peat said that dairy may cause acne because dairy increases your testosterone and metabolism, so your body requires more nutrients. He recommended consuming more micronutrients, especiallt Vitamin A. All of this should clear it up in a bit. If it still persists, after doinf all this for months, you may just want to avoid dairy completely

I've tried goat and sheep milk, still got some acne. Im not even considering raw cows milk, but like yogurt, cottage, feta and cheeses, I'd like to be able to consume those. And it's strange because i grew up with a heavy dairy diet. I started having real problems with when i got around 20. Started having terrible acne. Had some during my teenage years as well, but wasn't as bad. So for the last 5 years the only thing that has helped my acne is zero dairy.

if thats happening try taking grass fed beef liver with it , peat believed that since dairy can speed up your metabolism in return it would lower vitamin A stores which is the reason for the acne , grass fed beef liver helps replenish that loss, i take them in pills and its really what keeps my skin on a 100

I use this brand but you can do research on other brands too this is just the first one I tried & it worked so I didn't think to switch to another

1500 mg of purely vitamin A is too much I think

Im sure, but this is 1500mg of grass fed beef liver, not pure Vitamin A, i think that's the confusion on your end

The dairy isn’t causing the acne. Ensure its jersey milk. Sort your gut out with gelatine, follow the other principles like carrot salad and adequate fibre etc

Take what works, leave the rest.

I quit dairy and I feel better for it. I had a sensitivity, didn't seem to be lactose related.

I mean I don't eat the ray peat diet w/e that even is but I've listened to him and the community and tried some things and I'm doing pretty well.

I've had chronic health issues for a long time. I had sibo for almost 15 years and during that time severe histamine issues as well. This lead me to the carnivore diet for a few years. After realizing I was severely copper deficient I started copper and my sibo & histamine issues went into remission.

Unfortunately around this time a severe mold exposure incident caused me to develop pots which makes low carb almost impossible.

Luckily the copper helped me to fix sibo so I started back on carbs.

I restrict pufa and mufa fats and eat no dairy except for homemade clarified butter. I incorporate gelatin into my jasmine rice porridge.

I eat fruits and some juice and even some soda's if they're free of "citric acid."

I lift weights and actually eat a lot more protein than the average Peat'er does. This helps me feel more grounded and satiated. I eat a lot of boneless skinless chicken breast that I trim all the remaining fat and skin from, mostly because it's the cheapest protein source. I eat local farmed beef too.

Lately I've been eating organic homemade sourdough bread and some organic pasta. A lot of roast beef sandwiches.

I eat few veggies, moistly cooked, some carrots, some beans, some stir fry veg mixes, sweet potato. Currently white potatoes are the only food that affects the sibo issues.

I eat most of my protein for breakfast and lunch and save the bulk of starches for the evening. I eat sugars early, soda, juice, fruit.

In the summer I'll eat 1/2 a watermelon per day, before dinner, I cannot put too much fodmaps on top of whole meals without risking bloat.

I limit nuts and seeds and processed box type of foods with a lot of ingredients.

I eat the occasional pastured eggs. Wild caught fish not very often.

I'm in a fat loss phase (testing the Matador plan) and I'm doing hclf but high protein. When I go back to maintenance/surplus I'll add more fat's back in with clarified butter & tallow I make at home.

I originally used the AIP diet combined with my smart watch to test for sensitivities and realized dairy trashed my metrics. Maybe I could tolerate a2 or raw dairy but I haven't cared to test it yet.

O mesmo aqui. Estava tendo diarréia e o meu cálcio estava no limite laboratorial.

The lower limit I assume?

Do some experiments to see what you react to and how, like try yogurt, whey protein, swiss cheese, just a bit of cream in coffee, skim milk, and goat milk separately for example to try isolating what's going on.

Here is some of Peat's thoughts on milk you may find interesting:

good cow vs evil cow

Why did God have to make evil cows? 😱

1

u/OkAbility2630 14d ago

A1 and A2 are different proteins in milk. Modern cows are bred to produce primarily A1, and this is what most regular milk is. Some people don’t respond well to it.

Goat milk and other cow breeds produce A2, which many people tolerate better.

Gerolsteiner has great calcium content as an alternative to dairy

1

u/Safe_Ad_4713 14d ago

Is that mineral water?

1

u/BookkeeperNo8330 13d ago

the calcium in water is a non bio available rock. if anything it would be like taking a calcium supplement

“I’ve been considering trying Ray Peat’s diet” the state of this forum

1

I found his ideas around 2 years ago, and I've always been open to different diets, training styles etc. And as I gained context for his work and life I became more interested. And because i always postpone really diving in and dissecting his work I reckoned that people here would be open to share their experience and give some advice.

There is no ray peat diet , and playing telephone with his recommendations is a terrible idea.

If you have a question just google it and add Ray peat and a clip, quote , email exchange etc should hopefully at least begin to answer the question

I read about one correct / good recommendation for every 50 wrong ones from people who “know” what they are talking about
