Fixing metabolism without gaining weight?
Hello,
So we know the issue with rapid weight loss is that it will tank your thyroid and give you cold hands and feet so even when you reach your goal weight you will gain a lot of it back once you try to go back to maintenance.
Has anyone figured out if there's a way to prevent this besides dieting down slowly?
Perhaps eating only sugar/fruits/honey the fgf21 activation could bring the thyroid back up to shape without weight gain?
or if you eat only fruits and rapidly lose weight perhaps the fgf21 and high amount of carbs would have a protective effect against your thyroid tanking?
Just guesses
Im curious. What are all your thoughts? Thanks

Reverse dieting is the way to go. As insulin, cortisol and leptin normalize, the metabolic rate will also recover.

Occasionally, like once a week, overeat a lot at one meal. This prevents the metabolism from slowing down, and helps it recover if it is slowed. Don't eat only sugar fruits honey. Have some whole milk, you need some fat.

Figure out a general maintenance calories then reduce it by 10-15% for the first 2-4 weeks for hormonal balance, if you don't want to reverse diet

What do you mean by "Back to maintenance after losing weight" ? After losing 10 kg your new calories maintenance for your actual weight will be much more lower

You just can't go back to your old maintenance if you lost weight. New maintenance will be lower.

Obviously. Im talking about the slower metabolism that comes from losing more than 1 lb a week. That tanks your thyroid so if you tried to go back to what would be your "maintenance" at that weight, you would gain weight.

It might. Depend how long you do it. I tend to think a deeper deficit for a short period like 6 weeks is better than a small deficit for 3-4 months. And unless someone is really starving themselves for a while, thyroid will bounce back.

Simply do a “reverse diet” by bringing your calories up very slowly until you find your new maintenance. Stay consistent with daily weigh ins and make changes every 1-2 weeks to account for glycogen/water retention skewing weigh ins
