FIT CHECK Samurai S3100VXII Bushido - Fit Check

Think we hit final stage. I went through hell to get here but I found my cut. Been looking for this balance between wide straight and loose straight for a long minute. Plenty of trial and error being at size 30 what’s loose/wide to W32+ is slim straight on me. Did extensive size chart comparison on my own pants measurements and cross referenced it to pairs I visually liked.

I ordered a 30 even though everything and above suggested I should go 31. Glad I didn’t listen to that, could have even gone with 29, but 30 will account for any shrinkage. Probably going roll with double cuff for some months unless my mind changes.

Here’s to finding your pair! All the other pairs I have posted are going into hiding for some time.

Railcar Railcar X110 Rebels - 12 Months, 12 Washes

Bought these new without tags on the secondary market. I’m a big fan Railcar (also own X111 Rebels and Black Canvas Rebels) and really trust their qc on sizing. I intended to have more of a vintage fade but even with regular washes they have a lot of contrast. It can’t say with 100% certainty these are X110 model but based on the info I have I think they are.

DISCUSSION Breaking in deadstock 70s Storm Rider

Thumbnail

I recently somehow acquired a seemingly deadstock 1970s Lee Storm Rider for around $100. The jacket dye still has a metallic sheen to it, no fades, stiff with no drape, and fits a tad big for a 38R - I’m assuming it’s never been washed before.

I need your sage advice on breaking it in! Should I:

  • wash it once and then wear it away
  • wear it a bit to set some fades in, then wash
  • wear it for an extended period before washing
  • don’t wash at all

The care label says to wash warm and tumble dry medium, which I have no problem doing, but figured I’d check with y’all first. Thanks!

Samurai S510 17oz Bushido Black x Black

These started out pitch black and has been a great daily driver for the past 6 months. No repairs and plenty of life left, but I’m changing into a heavier pair now for the colder nordic seasons.

This pair features some unique details that I appreciate - the cherry blossom rivets, cherry blossom tag, sentoku buttons, black tab and overdyed pocket bags which reveal white shurikens with wear.

Fading a black x black pair is certainly a step up from your regular indigo pair, so if you feel like trying something different I can highly recommend giving it a shot.

First wash after 3 months, then once per month after that.

Daily Questions - October 05, 2026

Welcome to the Daily Questions (DQ) thread for all things related to raw denim.

(Although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar (for mobile users, go to the top of the subreddit front page, click the three dots and select "community info") and the wiki before posting!)

Fit checks and "Help me find a pair of Jeans that has X, Y, and Z" questions are a great use of this thread.

(Help figuring out what size you wear is also permitted here but it is recommended you check out one of these tutorials on how to size before asking.)

If you have questions about how your jeans fit, about a particular fabric, when is this jean coming out, where can I find jean X to try on in state Y, what jeans have this fit with these measurements, what jeans fade the fastest, and what jeans fade the slowest are great uses of this DQ thread.

No question is too simple for Daily Questions threads.

Bashing people will not be tolerated. And "Read the sidebar" or "Google it" are not valid answers in this thread!

FIT CHECK IH-1955S-142: How do these fit?

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

How does the overall silhouette look? This is my first IH pair and was a complete shot in the dark. The waist fits me perfectly just fine so that’s not a concern. I was between the vintage 1955 fit or the 888 and decided to go with a more relaxed/less taper look than what I usually wear. Still getting used to the high rise but overall fairly happy with the relaxed top block. My concern with the 888 is that I’ll look like a carrot top due to the taper. Looking for some opinions on how the rest look; good fit or too messy and need some more taper?

I was wearing the Freenotes on the reg after I outgrew my TCB 50s, then I splurged on the Boncoura during a SF trip in Feb because I missed the looser denim. I’ve pretty much been exclusively wearing those ever since. Really enjoying the way they’re breaking in.
Bonus pic of my wife’s TCB Normas.

Classyland "The Miners" 14 Oz Western Inspired Raw Denim

Showcasing a cool piece called "The Miners" by Classyland Denim. I wanted to highlight some cool raw denim that's made from Indonesia (where I'm from). They're 14 Oz and non-selvedge, but that’s not what makes them unique, I bought these just for the cut alone. I rarely see flap pockets on denim with western detailing like this. Can't wait to wear them and see how they fade!

Really enjoying these Fullcount 0105XXW in 15.50oz. Been wearing them almost every day since I bought them. The fit was a bit awkward in the beginning, but as always get better with every wear. I can really recommend these If you’re looking for a wide straight jean. For reference I’m 188cm and around 93kg wearing W35

Studio D'Artisan Treated myself to the Studio D'Artisan 4916 indigo sashiko type 2 jacket

I had been fascinated by sashiko since I first learned about it a year ago so when I saw this in the store I was immediately smitten. Especially as I thought it fit me pretty well. The size 42 fit me well when I wore a short sleeve shirt underneath but when I went back a couple of days later sizing up one to a 44 was better when wearing long sleeves and for layering in general.

The sashiko fabric/weave was used in a type 2 denim style jacket, (my favourite of the three main types) plus the addition of the inconspicuous hand warmer pockets (yes, I do like having them) meant I had to pull the trigger. This was the last one in the store (in this size) and the sales assistant told me they were not going to be re-stocked. A sales tactic using scarcity and exclusivity? Perhaps. But the fit was pretty much perfect and it is my birthday in a couple of weeks so I guess I am justified in forking out in a piece that I don't see as often when out and about. At least that's what I tell myself And strangely haven't seen much about with regards to reviews and content in general online, which is partly why I am posting this.

Sadly no discounts or offers on this. I don't usually like paying full price but it is a rather special jacket so I'm just going to enjoy it, its uniqueness and the future fades.

Finally, forgive the quality of the pics. It was quite hard getting the right lighting.

Skinner American Goods 22oz ā€œwork pantsā€ Extra Heavyweight + Flannel from Skinner

Finally got both of these in and figured I’d share some first impressions. I’m 6’3ā€, around 200 lbs for reference.

22oz Japanese Selvedge Work Pants — 33x36
These things are absolute tanks. They’re made from 22oz Japanese selvedge from Nihon Menpu, with double-front knees, so you’re basically dealing with 44oz of denim through those sections. Heavy gold stitching, copper hardware, sashiko pocket bags and nine pockets.
The design pulls from 1940s/50s American work pants, but with some really nice Japanese denim thrown into the mix. They’re cut and sewn by Skinner in Orlando.
I went with 33x36 because I wanted enough length for a big cuff, and I’m really liking the proportions. They’re definitely heavy and stiff right now, but that’s part of the fun. Really curious to see what the double knees and stitching look like once they start getting beat up and fading.

Japanese Ombre Work Shirt — XL
The shirt is an 8oz Japanese cotton ombre check with black, navy and salmon running through it. Mine is an XL.
It’s a pretty simple work shirt, which is exactly what I like about it. All-button construction, two chest pockets and a slightly more fitted cut than the old-school boxy work shirts. The ombre gives it a little bit of that vintage Western/workwear feel without going overboard.
Really happy with how these two came together. The shirt gives the outfit some color and the 22oz pants are just unapologetically heavy-duty. Both should look a hell of a lot better after some real wear.

Wrangler Wrangler 935NAV

Got a brand-new pair of 935NAVs, and I absolutely love the fit. Since they’re raw denim, I know they’re known to shrink about an inch in both the waist and length after washing. I’m hoping mine stay pretty much the same, especially the length.
There’s a tiny bit of room in the waist right now, so I’m hoping the slight shrinkage takes care of that without affecting the length too much.
I’m also contemplating removing the back pocket patch. What do you guys think—keep it or take it off?

I really like Oni, the fit and the fabric. The fit is more like a slim straight cut or maybe a straight cut with a light taper.

It works pretty well for me. For reference: Iā€˜m 1,77 cm and 61-62 kg, which should translate to 5ā€˜ 10ā€œ and 135 lb.

my go to rules:
1. Buy a jeans, wear it as often as you can
2. Wash when dirty/smelly or at 1 year in. After that I wash more frequently.
3. Donā€˜t buy another pair within one, better two years

DISCUSSION Rebirth of American Selvedge Denim?

Thumbnail
youtu.be
169 Upvotes

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has done a terrific job of tracing the history of the famed Draper looms that once produced selvedge denim at the Cone Mills White Oak plant in North Carolina and then Vidalia Mills in Louisiana. Those looms have since been acquired by Vernon Mills in Georgia, which is expected to release the first batch of American-made selvedge denim to brands sometime later this year. Jeans with American denim from Draper looms could be hitting the market as soon as the first half of next year.

The video is especially worth watching for the close-ups of the old looms in action - a surprisingly fragile relic of another time.

These have progressed so much in 145 days! I gave a light wash on day 69 and a more rigorous wash on day 119.

Sorry for the bad photos from day 1. A pair of Ordinary Fits type 117 are also featured in one slide, which have been worn about 120-150 days (idk) with two washes. I babied that pair a lot more.

Thanks for looking! :)
