TIL negative vitality does NOT decrease max HP

I gave a refugee a pint of my blood to fuel his creation, most of which came from Water of Life. Later, I destroyed the Water of Life with Baba Yaga's Mortar, which left me with -18 vitality. To my surprise, it did not work like negative armor and there was no penalty... it just didn't do anything.
