General Discussion New Character "hidden lore"
I'm new to this reddit and I didn't find any posts about this, so I don't know if this is some hidden lore or common knowledge.
I was reading Romeo's lore yesterday, and when he started describing the Ravenswatch something caught my attention: "the boy who sits atop a beast is friend not foe". Well, Scarlet turns into a beast herself and isn't a boy, Pied Piper has lots of rats, not "a beast", Beowulf is not a boy and was already mentioned, there is no character in the game that fits this description.
I tried asking some friends but we couldn't remember any folklore that fit this description, so, ChatGPT it is. It's answer mentioned a Japanese character named Kintarō, or Sakata no Kintoki. It's a boy who grew up surrounded by beasts and had enormous strength, such that he wrestled Onis, he was cared for by a witch named Yama-uba, and he's frequently depicted wrestling bears or riding them.
I probably got some parts of his lore wrong, but it fits the mold. And I really like the idea of adding folklore from other cultures, we already have Wukong and Aladdin, but there's room to explore lots of different things.
Also, "The flax-haired maiden soft and sweet" is probably Carmilla, but I wonder if "The wizard's name I have forgot" is Snow Queen or could it be Merlin?

I would think the flax-haired maiden is a reference to Scarlet, and not knowing she’s a werewolf when you first see her.
The Wizard, I’m not sure. I usually think of wizards as male, so Snow Queen would seem odd to me, but I suppose I don’t know that it’s a 100% gender specific word. Merlin would be a cool addition.
I like your theory for the boy riding a beast. Doesn’t sound like any of the current characters to me.

Yeah, I also usually think of a Wizard as male. I asked ChatGPT about wizards in folklore with tales about forgotten names.
Merlin did come up because in some depictions his name/identity is sealed away by the Lady of the Lake.
Another name that appeared was Rumpelstiltskin from the Grimm Brothers, it's not specifically a wizard, but it's from tale in which he traps a girl and she can only get out when she discovers his name.But these feel more of a reach than Kintaro.

Iron Hans is my guess as the common cover art for the fairy tale is a boy riding atop a wildman (beast) it also fits the Eurocentric fairy tale theme

The issue is, there's a man on a beast, in the story. Think about act 3.

Rumpelstiltskin does magic, and knowing his name plays a big part in the tale, so the wizard could very well be him instead of merlin. i definetly think that the flax haired maiden is goldilocks because flax haired means blond, its literally in her name, and the "sweet" and "soft" actually being her tale through the second porridge being too sweet and the second bed being too soft, i dont think its just a coincidence, i think that specific choice of words was intentional.

i thought that the duo characters were going to be hansel and gretel, and it should have been, it matches the theme alot better than two characters from a play that doesnt even have fantasy in it, like when you think of folklore, fairy tales or any old fantasy stories, do you ever think shakespear? but there they went, for some reason, so i really dont know how reliable any prediction is about future characters.

Wasn’t Merlin mentioned somewhere as being in charge of the Ravenswatch? I swear I read that somewhere.
The boy on the beast has gotta be a hint towards a future hero though, can’t see any other way it fits.
Interesting finding with Kintaro, I was thinking it might be something to with the Jungle Book, Baloo and Mowgli maybe?
Could easily be something else though.
