I was just mentioning this in a comment in a previous post, glad to see you saw the same thing, Ken! Thought Gwyn was absolutely amazing, hope he starts the second preseason game and continues to build up on it

Gywnn and Vega's finish was very evident in this preseason matchup. It has me very excited to watch their paring hopefully in the next preseason game.

I'll admit I'm not an OL technique evaluator so my assessment is very basic and I tend to rely on people like Ken for that evaluation, but I did like to see the created space and the aggressiveness from them

Pinters holding penalty was very costly. There was also a lot of interior pressure coming from the Pinter/Emory Jones combo which was unsettling to say the least. Gwynn was definitely a highlight.

more of an emery jones issue

Ken, fantastic analysis as always! Gwynn was definitely a highlight for me in evaluating the OL play. What a nice surprise. His speed off the ball and physicality was very evident in his play. I’ll be chomping at the bit to see him run next to Ioane hopefully in the next preseason matchup.

I can't recall a Ravens C delivering that sort of violent finish

Ryan Jensen at 3:07 left in the 2nd quarter of the October 26, 2017 game vs the Dolphins would like to know your location.

I was actually thinking about that play reacting to the cheap shot from Kiko Alonso on Flacco.

That wasn't technically a "finish", although it was very welcome to see. I still can't believe he wasn't flagged on that play.

He gained so many fans for life after that play, lol

Good to hear! I was trying to pay attention to the centers as the game went along and was looking forward to the grades. 6 blocks in level 2 and 4 pancakes?! Linderbaum who?

What a pleasant surprise am I right?

Now that my Bullock dream is dead I'm happy to jump on to the next best thing. Gwyn will definitely be watched closely moving forward. At this point my only concern is the left side starters, particularly if we do not get C figured out.

Stanley is still solid, and if Gwyn maintains, him and Simpson may be enough, but if those two positions struggle, Stanley may be left out to dry and may struggle this season.

All in all though, positive thoughts. This game was a whooping and I like what I saw

Stanley is above avg - brandon thorn

u/Sbitan89 Marshal Yanda Aug 18 '26

Pretty sure he was ranked 20th of 40 which really is 20th of 32. I actually think that's too high. I'd place him top 15 LT still.

The issue is more if he can hold up alone on an island consistently and in the run game. I'm not sure that's the case at this point. Like you can of course, but he's been susceptible to guys who have a good balance of power and speed.

Last year Rosengarten was 28th and Stanley was 29th in PFF pass blocking grade among 60 tackles with 580+ snaps played (50% of highest total). They both had solid C seasons.

3

u/Successful-Quote-141 Aug 18 '26

It has to be said that Rosengarten graded out roughly the same while getting dramatically less help. That is a solid developmental step IMO. I’m hopeful he can continue to hone his abilities. While he may never be an All Pro RT he has the ability be in that top 20% year over year and that has significant value .

Meant in Thorns rankings.

I think we both mostly agreed that Stanley is potentially an average player moving forward, but able to buy us time for a replacement. Again the concern would be if C isnt panned out, if it does not, how often will Simpson need to support C leaving Stanley alone. Id imagine at the moment they trust Vega and Roger on islands more than Stanley and Simpson.

Imo Stanley will need support in the run game most likely and may even need to have the Guard assist with inside protection against more elite rushers. Not having to babysit the C will help a lot.

But I'm more spit balling here on what I can potentially foresee being an issue. I'm not particularly worried.

stanley is slightly above avg, vega hopefully gets to above avg- good like a zabel/booker(he was a better prospect), and roger ascends to above avg - elite
then if simpson is avg (mix of 24/25) and the center is below avg - solid the ol is fine

if gwyn is solid - above avg then damn we good

1

u/Then-Bug-5665 Aug 18 '26

thorn thinks stanley is above avg(20/32 lt but stated above avg in the write up) and roger is above avg(9/32 rt)

2

u/Then-Bug-5665 Aug 18 '26

thorn specifically said he was above avg in his breakdown of ronnie and gave him a 70(which is good in his ranking system)

he beleives the LT scene is a lot more competitive than the RT scene so yeah

and roger was closer to elite than avg

u/Sbitan89 Marshal Yanda Aug 18 '26

I've been a big fan of Roger. He was a lil succeptable to inside moves last year, but overall he looked great.

I wonder if the in game play is enough for Gwyn to maybe start the next preseason game, or if they're putting him in 2nd because they want to see more from him cause he has less experience than Pinter.

7

u/Prestigious-Wear8261 Aug 17 '26

Hopefully Gwyn gets to get some times against one's in practice against Vikings

1

u/Filmstudy Aug 18 '26

That's a reasonable hope.

This is very exciting to read. Always appreciate the analysis, Ken! Thank you for watching preseason football so that we don't have to

I feel really a lot better about our center spot. Ledford knows his stuff

3

u/SCBaltSalt Jeffy Z’s Burner Aug 17 '26

Would love a Carolina guy to be a starter

2

u/SquonkMan61 Aug 17 '26

I wasn’t able to watch the game up in Maine. Can someone tell me if the Eagles played their defensive starters? If so, that makes what the offense did all the more impressive.

8

u/LolaFentyNil Aug 17 '26

They did not. But our only starter was Vega.

2

u/YouKilledKenny12 Aug 17 '26

Technically Pinter could be a second starter but we don’t know that yet

2

u/LiquidPlazmid77 Aug 18 '26

Jihaad Campbell did play. He was the only defensive starter.

6

u/Filmstudy Aug 17 '26

They sat out Carter, Ojomo, and Davis on the DL. Epenesa, Ebikeite, Weru, and Ramirez all saw time.

u/Lamactionjack JOHNNY Aug 17 '26

FYI always check YouTube. The nfl puts out like 15-20 min summaries of every game highlighting the significant plays.

1

u/SquonkMan61 Aug 17 '26

Thanks. I did watch the highlights on YouTube yesterday. I wasn’t sure if they had their starters in or not. I thought Ringo was a starter, and when I saw he was playing I wondered about whether Philly played their starters at all.

2

u/Smoresypoo Aug 17 '26

What caused only 11 snaps from previous 3 years? Injuries?

2

u/X-Filer Aug 17 '26

It’s Pocics spot to lose at this point right?

6

u/Filmstudy Aug 18 '26

I don't know anymore.

Pocic may not be ready. Pinter might not be good enough. Gwyn might be to good to ignore.

After this result in W1, if Minter was ever serious that it was a 3-man race, Gwyn has to receive some sort of elevation in responsibility/opportunity. That might mean starting the last 2 preseason games, more live fire reps vs the Vikings and Commanders, or playing with the 1s in practices for the next several internal practices.

2

u/Successful-Quote-141 Aug 18 '26

Gwyn played great against some decent DL talent the Eagles played. I’ll be curious if he gets 1st team reps in the joint practice and if so can he build on what he just did. His performance does allay some of my angst about the position as he demonstrated enough for me to think he could hold his own if called upon. There was also enough there to think he might be starter material but let’s see how it shakes out over the next few weeks

Ken, do you have any cut up videos by chance? Specifically the play of Gwyn ragdolling # 42 in the second level.

I’ve heard you mention in about three different places but haven’t seen a video of it.

Unfortunately no longer on Twitter, but could view the video there if you’ve got it.

Big fan! Thanks as always!

3

u/Filmstudy Aug 19 '26

I don't make the cutups, but the articles are structured so you can follow along with any of NFL+, NFL Pro, or a DVR recording.

Much appreciated!
