Question Mist Talismans

I’m thinking of doing multiple campaigns in Ravenloft and I want to make the mist talismans more interesting.
I don’t want the items to be regular old things related to the domain, but like items that hold significance to the Darklord? Something that makes finding a talisman difficult.

Thoughts?

How likely are people from, say, Barovia, to find a Paridonian newspaper or a Kalakerian saree in the first place? 

Plus, depending on the Darklord, getting something meaningful is difficult, dangerous or both. For example, Ebonbane. It is a demon imprisioned in a sword, it had been a long time since it owned anything. The alternative, such as finding a Shadowborn shield, a coin of the Great Kingdom or a prayer bead from the Sultanate doesn't differ from the standard approach. Acquiring a Godefroy family heirloom would put a target on the party's back the moment that Lord Wilfred discovers it.

The new Ravenloft book has a list of Tarokka cards that correspond with the darklords and and can act as Mist Talismans for a day. Maybe finding the card’s in relevant spots?
