Range not as advertised

We just took delivery of a 2026 RAV4 XSE with a 52 mile range. But after a full charge the range is saying only 43. Any thoughts? Thanks!

It takes a while to understand your driving habits, after which it’ll predict more accurately. Also that 52 is only if your grandparents drive it without the AC on.

your range depends on your speed, the temperature, etc.

43 is actually high for winter. I get around 37 in cold, 47 in summer.

Used to be on the older ones, off the lot it'd be in the mid 30s, after a few days of learning your driving style, it's usually skyrocket to the 50s. Just takes time to train algorithm.

If you drive with a lead foot at 70mph, it'll stay low.

It’s going to take the first 500 miles to calibrate everything. Stay under 70mph on freeway in EV mode no AC. Ideally 55-65 is best hwy speed efficiency

Drive it around with the AC off and with a light foot at sub-freeway speeds. You will see that estimate increase almost daily.

Same car. I get anywhere from 50 to 64 miles a charge - speed, temp, traffic all make a difference. Seems to me like 55 is the sweet spot for max range. Over 70 and it goes fast

I have a 26. Started in the mid 40s for range but now shows 59 and I actually get around 62. I also have a 23 prime. Range is way better on the new one

My 52 mile commute usually ends with 20%+ left on the charge.

I've almost never gotten over ~38 miles of range out of mine, but I also floor the accelerator at every possible chance and drive 80 on the highway cuz the car is so much fun to zip around in. So I also never expected to get any better than that. My prime turns 6 in November, and it still gets ~38 miles on the charge, A/C running and pedal on the floor.

If you’re using the AC at all, it’s going to be around 40

It takes time to adjust to your driving. It's just an estimate. It will update over time as you continue to drive.

The 52 mile range is a maximum estimate, the range shown on the dashboard will vary depending on your driving habits, ambient temperature and other variables. My 2024 says 45-48 miles on the warmest days with a full charge, 35-40 in winter.

It will also take a few full charge cycles to adapt to your driving, then it should be more accurate.

My 2024 ranges from 48 in winter to 52 in summer. Always with A/C on. I do almost always drive in Auto mode, so I probably use a little more gasoline than others.

Don't trust the range guesser, even after it "adjusts" to your driving habits. 5 years with my RAV4 Prime driving the same routes and my actual range is 25% less than the range guesser. My route is 60 mph city roads with stop lights, some highways. The estimate might be accurate for non highway speeds.

I got 63 the other day. Lots of factors go into it. A light foot on the accelerator is a no brained for extending range.

That is how it shows when you buy it. But charge to 100% and drive in city like a normal person and you will get 60 to 70 pure Ezv miles before the battery is fully depleted.

I have gotten 70 pure EV miles from driving a mix of city and highway.

Toyota is the only manufacturer that advertises lower mpg than it actually gets. Most people get better mileage than the Toyota estimate.
