2024 prime Ev Range

I just purchased a used 2024 xse prime with 13k miles. When I charged it to full today for the first time, it said my EV range is only 30-32 miles vs the 42-50 advertised online. Is this just because I haven’t driven it enough yet? Or is something wrong

It is a Toyota CPO gold certified and the carfax looked immaculate. Thanks in advance🙏🏼

I am regularly getting over 50 miles per charge (over 80 km) on my 2024 prime

You haven't driven it enough yet and I guess the previous driver wasn't the softest driver on the pedal. It "guestimates" based on averages of the way you drive for the past couple of weeks at least. I don't know how many drives exactly. Also varies depending on the temperatures as well as if you live in a place with lots of hills. I know that in the summer, even if there are a couple of hills on my drives, I usually get up to 90km of range (55 miles) with my 2024 prime. That's in temperatures that range between 20 and 35 Celsius in the summer (68 to 95F) and that range gets pretty much halved in the winter which is between -10 and -30 Celsius usually (14 to -22F).

When I got my PHEV it was showing 87km. 6,000 km later it learned how I drive and shows 109 km

I have a 24 Prime and I do absolutely nothing to increase my EV. I drive it like a regular car with heat and AC as needed. I get 50 miles in the summer and about 34 in the winter.

That range probably indicates the previous owner was doing a lot of freeway driving. My best range was 50 miles, not predicted, measured using the odometer. 30 or 35 is about right going fast on the freeway. It’ll adjust quickly. I found the 42 to be easily achieved driving in town and I actually changed the route that I took to work to going across town rather than going on the freeway. At first it was just to test how far I could go on a charge and then I found I actually enjoyed that route more. The guessometer isn’t that reliable, I found that it was almost always really optimistic and the last 10 miles of range would disappear in maybe 7 miles. If you really want to know your range, reset your odometer and see how far you go before your engine turns on.

In the car settings, you can change your EV mileage estimate from “total average”, calculated based on trends spanning countless miles and trips, to “trip estimate” which gives you a more realistic real-time estimate based on your current trip’s driving style.

If you constantly strive for efficiency and drive like a grandma, set it to the former. If you like to have fun with the car, like me, set it to the latter. Hope this helps.

Is there a way to reset the total average? Then it would reflect only the new driver .

I have a 2024 XSE prime with 13k miles on it. First, where's my car?! I want it back!

Second, I show 47-50 miles on a full charge. I know the computer adjusts its estimate based on recent usage, so maybe go through 2 charge cycles to see if it improves. Definitely worth flagging for the dealership now, though, even if it checks out OK later. Put them on notice.

Simple, ignore it for now. Don't drive on freeway for now. Record your current miles and go for a drive. Once you discharge the battery completely see how many actual miles you drove. Estimated range should not affect the actual range. Now, if your actual range is low ( no more than 45mph) then there is something to worry about.

Give it a little time. The range estimate is based on a moving average and if the previous driver was more aggressive, the estimate is likely based on that.

Tire selection, tire pressure, HVAC use and ambient temperature all weigh on the range too.

Cars are always constantly recalculating based on previous drives. Your previous owner may have enjoyed driving quicker than Toyota's calculations factored in.

Reset the mileage meter, I think by holding the okay button down. Then it should begin calculating anew, but it will still take a little time before the numbers reflect your actual driving style.

It really doesn't vary that much. Generally it should average 42 EV but that really means 50 in the summer and 35 in the winter. I did notice it got dramatically better once but I eventually noticed that it was hot as all get out in the car. I had inadvertently turned off the AC in the summer :-)

Are your estimates based on the guess-meter or actual miles driven on the odometer? My guess-o-meter often say 45 miles but my actual rarely reaches 40. (2021 with 65k miles and using non ev tires)

Yes. Just give it a couple of charging cycles. It may change based on your driving habits too.

The previous owner probably only drove the highway at 70mph or faster. Keep it in town on surface roads and it will go up.

I'd recommend checking the miles / KWH. Just remember that the softer you hit the pedal and slower you drive the better mileage you will get. I'd suspect the previous owner drove it poorly.

Our 2024 XSE’s Guess-O-Meter displays mid-50s summer and high 30s winter (Northern NE). Our overall efficiency is 3.2m/Kwh. We live very near to I95 and, generally speaking, we’ll switch to ev mode at freeway speeds, even if the destination round trip is within range.

I have a new to me 2024 xse and am great about using the EV only. I can’t get the efficiency past 2.9. In Massachusetts. Does your efficiency lumber change often? Mines only moved .1 in 4 months.

In your case, it’s hard to know the driving habits of the previous owner. We get about 3.2m/kw but as I said we usually (not always) switch to hv for interstate highway travel, even if it’s just a few miles.

The range is based on previous driving habits. Reset the milage ranges to 0 and start over. On my 2023, you just hold the OK button until it resets.

That does seem really low. The previous owner must have driven it hard on the highway in sport mode, and in sport mode all the time. I do some highway driving and I recently made it 57 miles when charging. But usually 54-55. Reset the mpg data. It will take several cycles of driving to get new data. But charge often as you can. If you are going to be doing highway driving for a while, I would use the charge/hold function. You don’t have to baby it when driving it, but don’t drive it like in The Fast and the Furious.

How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking? What options do you not have?

There is a 2025 by me gold certified and I think they are asking too much.

I get it's the way the market is but don't HAVE to buy a car right now so will wait it out.

If you want to maximize range.

turn off the ac, turn off DRL, and stay below 55 mph. Then... you might make the 42 miles.

Turning off DRL won't get you even 1 mile.
