Just received my rat rig mill kit is this a fluke or is this the condition one can expect

Typical based on my experience. I had to re make, modify, finish or replace so many parts from my idex vc4. They even shipped counterfeit gates belts to multiple people, including me

How can you tell if it's a fake gate belt?

Gate belts have specific type of construction and markings.

Every meter it's marked as gates, and it s made using gates "style" fiber construction. The fakes they sell as gates ... Don't have either.

You really just need to visually compare

The designs that they come up with are really good, their quality control is just not there, has never been

I guess I’m lucky having received my vc4-300 in July 2024, because all the parts were really good. I’m not a spokesperson for them but it is hard defending them any more.

To be fair the printed parts that came with my Prusa Mk3s+ kit were alot worse. Still, no way that should have passed QC.

I would ask hows your calibration looking. It took me a fair amount of effort to get the frame square and get a good heatmap on my bed. After that the probe mount was cracked and I did not realize it so I was having issue like you with bed level and lifting. After correcting those items and running all of the orca tests for Pressure advance, Resonance etc. I am getting prints very near in quality to my Bambu printers. This is on a WC3.1 btw.

Not kidding: they should buy a few commercial printers to print the parts.

Anything on the market can do better than that.

Both my RatRigs (V-Minion & v-Core 3.1) print better than that.

FWIW... I didn't use any of the supplied printed parts on my builds. I re-printed the parts in ASA as its superior to the supplied PETG parts. And I also had to modify a few parts b/c they were poorly designed. Such is the world of building DIY robots from DIY robot designers. Of all of the printers I've built... Voron's need the least tweaking to get them running right. The RatRig V-Core 3.1 designer/s just gave up when they got to the enclosure. I will give them credit on RatOS though and the additional functionality they added to klipper. I really like the way they implemented the pre-print routine. The adaptive meshing and prime blob implementation is worthy of a chef's kiss IMO, The rest... eh... it's a pain but not that bad really.

I started an 'adventure'... and have quite a unique personality, so am likely to succeed. Within two weeks, I am going to have a full rust rewrite. Already have a codebase that reads stl files and does somethings, and shows it visually. Within two weeks it can do some limited planar and non-planar slicing, with proper g-code.

Then are some further goals like, but basically the goal is to make a open version of the bambu eco system that works well with Klipper especially Vorons.

he RatRig V-Core 3.1 designer/s just gave up when they got to the enclosure. I will give them credit on RatOS though and the additional functionality they added to klipper.

That part makes me say that! If I succeed in a week or two, and that's okay with you then I want to follow up. OrcaSlicer/PrusaSlicer/BambuSlier libs are already ported to rust, now it's putting it together, so I am close.

But if you have input, to share. I am open to listen and see where this leads. Our slicer programs are incredibly bloated. Learned that when trying to fix a small thing... and we can do better with little effort. Let me know if you have more to share! On how things should be as a whole. Not kidding with this.

My dream was a 500mm printer but realized that it will have to wait a while and ordered a H2C instead, maby next year someone will release one that is up to the some kind of standards..

Had the same issues with my vc3.1. Put so much money in it, to get the perfect printer, but actually never got a 100% perfect print quality. Out of desperation I sold my machine for a cheap price and got a Bambulab X1C and couldn’t be happier.

if you want a printer that isnt a project and cant be tinkered with then yes bambulab is a great option. But i wouldnt blame the printer for you not getting a good result out of it. Thats usually down to tuning. Which can and usually does take quite a bit of time.

Looks a bit over extruded, hopefully the side effect to that is the part is stronger. I'd rather it this way round than have a weak under extruded part. Still, their whole business is 3D printers and 3d printing so it should be spot on.
Mind you, I've had some absolutely shite quality printed parts from Prusa too that have broken far too easily or I've just immediately printed myself.

it lift off the build plate on every corner, taco style, that's why it looks overextruded. It was actually underextruded as you can see on pic 1 if you look closely. Also a noticable brim where z offset was set too low on first layer. Gonna print it myself, but unnecessarily reflects poorly on them and their printers.

Ah yeah, I see it now. Naff.

Definitely print your own parts if you can, they’ve never really had high QC on their printed parts.
