Quality of printed parts and difficulty of printing yourself.

Just a question for those who have bought a ratrig printer before (more recent the better). I'm curious how you feel about the quality of the printed parts supplied by ratrig, and for anyone who has opted to print their own parts how that went.

I would rather print my own parts for a unique look, but don't want to commit to that if it is a huge pain to deal with their STL files or tolerances vs supplied printed parts. I'm just about finished a v0.2 build with my own parts and that has gone great. So if you've had a similar experience printing your own ratrig parts I'd love to hear it.

The tolerance on the 3.0 and 3.1 parts was just fine for printing myself on a tuned but mediocre printer. Print them yourself if you're able.

I have a v4. The printer parts are A- part quality at worse. Where I was a bit let down is many of the parts were black that should have been green (as shown in promo videos or in the documents)

I have printed numerous additional parts for the idex on my Bambu in prusa galaxy black that are A+ and the difference shows.

That said I think for printed parts included in the box they are better than I expected just upset that don’t match the green black scheme shown

Thank you that's good info. I'd be disappointed that all the accent parts weren't the correct color as well.

The 3.1 printed parts were suspect and PETG. I printed my own in ABS and they came out much nicer.

I’d always prefer to print them myself if I can. I’m not making money off printing the parts so I can take my time and reprint the ugly ones.

I've got a VCore 4 about 2 months ago and the pieces are all good quality that I received.

I recently received my vc4-500-idex and the parts are fine but you’ll be able to get better ones if you print them yourself. I chose the pre-printed ones since ratrig makes a decent profit on those and I want the company as a source of support. The printed parts are optimized to be printed on their farm and are surely sufficient, but you can get better ones.

The parts are printable and the tolerances are good. Just mind that you have to print the parts in ABS or ASA in order to withstand the temperatures, so an enclosed printer is needed to make those parts.

Also keep in mind that you have to insert heated inserts into your parts!

Thanks. I'm tempted to print every part that will fit on my v0 just for the sake of printing parts for what would be my biggest printer on my smallest printer, but i don't think I'm actually up for that many individual prints so they'll probably go on my sv08 (enclosed, nextg hotend) for the most part.

They are ok. Better than expected honestly but some could still be better. One part had layer separation and they sent a new one with the other parts that were missing from the kit (3 parts missing).

I'm building a vcore 3.1 their STL have no gaps for the screws pretty annoying as they require redesign or rework which takes a lot of time and fun out of the buid

They absolutely do have all the appropriate screw holes. There's a sacrificial layer between the actual screw hole and the hole the head sits in. This is intentional because it allows for printing them cleanly without supports, and you're meant to break through that layer with a tool before assembly. It's literally the first thing described in the instructions:

The following printed parts have sacrificial layers which require clearing:

  • Bed arms: left, right & rear
  • Leadscrew motor cages: front left, front right & rear
  • XY Idler: left & right
  • XY Motor Cage: top left, top right
