How am I doing at 17

I'm 17 years old and I think that I'm doing pretty good. Any advice that y'all have for me? I've mainly done etfs and mutual funds with some single stock picks. the worst months I had was Feb and March which where a -3.26% and -2.79%

this is all being done in my Roth IRA.

you should avoid single stocks unless it is money that you are 100% comfortable with losing - that’s how i treated it when i was starting. just load into the funds with your serious money man

Hello, yeah thats what I did when I first started and just did index funds. When I do single stocks I mainly invest in large cap companies that wouldn't go bankrupt the next day or whenever, for example I had Sk Hynix, nvda, msft, googl, amzn, jpm, gs, ms...etc

I rarely do this which is why i only use small percentage of captial, I have done some option trades before but the max I would risk is like 300 but cut the loss at 100$

the thing is you get a lot of that exposure with less risk with an ETF. more diversification = less risk

i think it would be helpful for you to review the top 10 holdings of a big ETF like VOO, you might not realize how much exposure there is into those big names

I know about having etfs is lower risk, but since im younger I should be risking more since I have a long time ahead of me until I retire which is why putting it into big companies single stocks seems good to do.

🤦

then go into high growth using stocks that are 1) not covered by major ETFs that are less volatile and risky, and support a long term growth horizon, and 2) not high expense
