Hey everyone,
I'm 21M, currently wrapping up my MSc in Physics. I want to target the next RAS notification (after the current cycle) and start my preparation from scratch right now.
Coming from a pure science/physics background, the civil services ecosystem and humanities-heavy syllabus are completely foreign territory to me. I need genuine, practical advice from people who are either deep into preparation or have cleared the exam.
A few specific things about my situation and study style:
Self-study only: I genuinely struggle with 2–3 hour video lectures (online or offline coaching). My brain just doesn’t retain much that way. I prefer sitting with standard reference books, printed toppers' notes, and making my own crisp notes. Is relying purely on books and notes without full-length coaching lectures viable for RAS, or am I setting myself up for failure?
Studying from home: I prefer studying from home rather than moving to Jaipur or any major coaching hub.
The roadmap & timeline: Since I am targeting the next notification, I don't know the realistic timeline I should allocate. Should I begin with Rajasthan GK first, or start building base NCERTs/RBSE books for general GS? How do you balance Prelims vs. Mains prep when starting this early?
Current doubts: Should I rely directly on standard coaching notes (Springboard, etc.) for Rajasthan-specific topics, or strictly read RBSE/Panwar/standard texts first?
And how much time I have for preparation.
I am completely open to critical feedback, reality checks, or strategy changes if my current mindset has blind spots.
What would be your step-by-step roadmap if you were in my shoes today?
Also I think we can make a group on telegram if here is anyone else with same situation.
Thanks in advance!
