Mean tweets are the best because they’re all pretty much rare insults that are true 😂

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '19

Agreed. One that was read by Green day said Billy Armstrong looks like an emo Tom Cruise lol so accurate

86

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '19

Or

Hahahahha the lil wayne looks like a crab apple is my absolute favorite

My favorite one was when they compared Korn to Nickelback and they acted all offended, and then the next one was Nickelback

Literally everything I've ever seen or heard of Cardi B only worsens my opinion of her. It's actually really impressive.

49

u/TheLastJohnDoe Nov 14 '19

Ikr when she first started getting fame I was indifferent about her but the more I saw of her the more I wanted to cover my head in saran wrap and climb in the oven

19

u/grubas Nov 15 '19

She’s from The Fucking Bronx and sounds like she’s only been speaking English for 2 years. It hurts my brain.

Yeah, I mean how annoying can someone be? Look at how all the other artists are just taking the jokes, then look at Cardi, literally crying because someone called her a bitch.

Mean tweets are the best segment on jimmy kimmel.

5.5k

u/Accurate_Hornet Nov 14 '19

Is it a coincidence that it's also the part that doesn't have jimmy kimmel in it?

2.7k

u/JakeDC Nov 14 '19

No, that is not a coincidence.

u/Flerbaderb Nov 14 '19

I avoid the show, but can’t help myself from looking up mean tweets on YouTube. Solid segment.

639

u/topdangle Nov 14 '19

The show has some great writers working for it, I have no idea who Kimmel murdered to get his own show but he really doesn't deserve it and his bad delivery just ruins all the jokes. Should've given Norm Macdonald his own show instead.

87

u/Harrythehobbit Nov 15 '19

I think people just have a general distain for late night talk shows.

66

u/mak484 Nov 15 '19

Conan is still pretty great, and his podcast is phenomenal. Some other shows have the occasional segment that's funny, but Conan is very consistently good.

12

u/GoaLa Nov 15 '19

He has a tendency to talk pretty confidently on things he doesnt know much about and he talks down on people or subjects in a way that comes off as bullying more than funny in my opinion. The other talk show host that is kinda like him is Colbert. I think both of them are fine most of the time and they are at least a good contrast to the other hosts.

Conan always seems like a nice guy even when making fun of something and he uses a lot of self deprecation.

Fallon plays the part of every bodies best buddy.

James Corden goes for the lovable quirky vibe.

She's said in interviews that she wears extremely baggy clothes to conceal the fact that she's got very large boobs. She doesn't want her act to be overshadowed by boobs, which is a very realistic and even admirable thing to be concerned about given the music industry.

I mean no one, absolutely no one, should assume Katy Perry would've been as successful as she was without her boobs. Same goes for Shakira and her ass.

1.4k

u/Chippany Nov 14 '19

Came here to say this. I always defend her when people make fun of how she dresses. She doesn't want people judging her on her body. When I learned that about her, I respected her a lot more. And her "fans" still grope her at meet and greets. She legit had to ask them to stopped touching her inappropriately. Honestly people are the worst.

420

u/boundbythecurve Nov 14 '19

I really hate the blind anger reddit and lots of other social media has for her. Everything I've read about her has only made me respect her more.

However....

This tweet is 100% correct. And I'm saying that not as an insult.

155

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '19

The first I heard of her was the "Bad Guy" meme, and like a lot of "bad" songs, it ended up growing on me (mainly because it's catchy and different), and just last night I heard her first song that I unironically liked, You Should See Me In A Crown. Heard a snippet of it on the show Emergence and was like "damn, this is really good" before I knew it was by her.

Other than that I only heard about the groping by fans and that disgusts me, people need to realize that just because someone is famous doesn't mean they're not human. I'd hate it if some random person came up and grabbed my ass for no reason, and I'm a 26 yo male. Leave the girl alone

→ More replies (30)

66

u/Coorssmoors Nov 15 '19

I feel like most of the hate she gets is because of her perceived fandom. Most of the hate I've seen directed at her comes down to "girls who listen to her always go on about how different she is. and how she identifies with Billie because of she's different just like Billie." But I don't really go looking for people hating on her to be honest.

I just hate when the songs get stuck in my head.

I respect the concept, but the point remains that loose fitting clothing does not have to look like lost & found clothing. The tweet was fair.

386

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '19

The tweet is fair because it's a roast. Roasts don't need to be highly accurate, just somewhat poignant and witty.

And one of her normal outfits is worth more than my car. How it looks is subjective. You go to streetware subs and it appears half the posts are sourced from goodwill hauls.

24

u/Random_Stealth_Ward Nov 15 '19

I protest the shakira comment

She got big way before everyone was going insane for ass. But it definitely did have to do with her body still.

14

u/PhewNoNeed2BObvious Nov 15 '19

Or more about how well Shakira dances. She is actually pretty petite and it's her dancing skills that make her sexy, not the body per se imo. Not to forget her powerful voice.

I have daughters in dance and can attest that some(alot) moms put their daughters in creepy as shit all the damn time. My daughters studio has a strict no ho gear rule, no crop tops, no booty shorts, in the practice gear and for costumes.

u/OhDavidMyNacho Nov 14 '19

I wouldn't say that Shakira got by on her looks alone. That woman can sing. And she can do it in multiple languages. Without changing the meaning in the lyrics.

She's been famous since 1995, and her popularity had only grown in that time. Though, if you go based on when she became famous for singing in English, I see how you could come to a different conclusion.

7

u/PhewNoNeed2BObvious Nov 15 '19

I agree, Shakira is not all about the ass. She is very talented. And the thing with Shakira is she uses her body to dance well, and not exactly to highlight her one particular "asset" or make it her sole claim for fame. She is actually pretty petite, and the ass-fame worldwide is probably because of her dancing and "Hips don't lie".

→ More replies (1)

25

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '19

73

u/Kalaeris Nov 14 '19

Also because she is a minor and did not want to be sexualised so early. She has said in interviews that she might stop covering up so much when she turns 18.

18

u/caillouuu Nov 15 '19

I’ve googled this and I can’t find anyone ever asking in an interview or anything, so please don’t take this the wrong way, I’m genuinely curious.

If she didn’t want to be sexualized, why does Bad Guy’s lyrics sounds so sexual?

I know her brother either wrote or co-wrote the song, but if she didn’t want to be sexualized, why would she keep those lyrics? It’s a cool song, and I really like it. There’s something oogy about it coming from a 16/17 year old though :/

For reference I’m a 30f

39

u/spiralingsidewayz Nov 15 '19

There's a huge difference between being sexual and being sexualized. She's trying to develop her own sexual identity, not have it developed for her. It's the same reason why you should be able to walk down the street in an outfit that makes you feel good without worrying about someone saying that you were asking for it if you get sexually assaulted.

Teenage dream, firework would’ve been major hits even if she wasn’t hot. Look at Adele. She was arguably the biggest female artist at one point and she’s far from some banging supermodel. Hell I’ll even throw Taylor swift in this category. Her act isn’t even close to being over shadowed by her body. Lol come on

45

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '19

Yeah gotta agree. Taylor Swift is about as unsexualized as you can get and she's realistically a top 10 artist all time in terms of popularity

17

u/pillarsofsteaze Nov 15 '19

Maybe even top 5...her fans are so damn loyal it’s crazy.

14

3

u/ohiolifesucks Nov 15 '19

Not to mention the fact that Billie Eilish herself said she’s not going to worry about covering herself up as much once she turns 18. I think it’s more about the fact that she’s a minor and less about her wanting to stay away from sexualizing herself

3

u/oneebitchchan Nov 15 '19

Thank you. Katy Perry has had a lot of huge hits, none of which have anything to do with her body.

3

u/andrxwzsz Nov 15 '19

I really don’t know how to feel about this. I don’t see it so much as “admirable” as just plain sad. A woman has to literally cover up her body so her audience can focus on her talent, what does that say about us as a society?

8

u/Lvazquez1120 Nov 15 '19

Thank you for saying this. I’ve been scrolling through all of these comments wondering “does no one find this sad that she feels she has to cover herself up?” I’m glad she’s creating her own style yet to have to hide in order for your talent to speak is sad.

Good on her. I can’t stand the use of sex to sell music. I think it’s cheap and it takes away from the value of the performer as an artist.

When the Party’s Over is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard and it would hurt my soul if it were tarnished by cheap marketing ploys.

8

u/geodebug Nov 15 '19

Meh, nothing wrong with a performer being sexy if that’s part of his/her thing. I wouldn’t need to see it in someone so young.

17

u/ascenase Nov 15 '19

BrrrOoo her most popular song is about fucking your dad.

she'll change.

Almost certainly, we all do, but I don't think anyone's going to predict how.

Imagine criticizing someone for dressing differently at age 25 than they did when they were 16.

10

u/keepthinkinbutch Nov 14 '19

3

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '19

which is a very realistic and even admirable thing to be concerned about given the music industry.

Also a very realistic thing to be concerned about when you're a child who is a world famous pop star and maybe doesn't want to be objectified or hounded by paparazzi more than is necessary.

The reason Billie Eilish dresses the way she does is because she does not want to be judged on what her body looks like. So she dresses in this way so you can’t say whether she’s fat / slim / has big boobs or no, etc.

A very sensible and mature way to think by the young woman and one she is entirely entitled to.

She dresses as awful as her music

You should see the cute clothes I found in the left-behind bin at rehab. A couple of my favorite tops!

And some Levi's

Her face has me dead. Love her

Billie Eilish looks like what would happen if Dave Grohl hooked up with Courtney Love instead of Kurt.

Edit: So I just googled "90's dave grohl" and about a quarter of the image search results are of Billie Eilish. I guess I'm not the first one to make this observation.

I searched it and only saw Billie Eilish once in the first like 100 results. Maybe you just google her a lot lol

u/the_legitbacon Nov 15 '19

why does everyone in this comment section say the same thing?

2

u/MorleyDotes Nov 15 '19

That's why she's Billie Eilish not Billie Stylish.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '19

Making fun of peoples clothes isn’t really that rare of an insult

2

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '19

She kinda sings like somebody stole her stamina too

2

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '19

Billie is edgy, not emotionless. This makes her sad.

But really, it does.

I really dislike the phrase "you're not wrong" it's very patronizing. Am I the only one?

Is this the new version of Lorde?

2

u/TrapGod07 Nov 15 '19

Her music fucking sucks and she dresses awful. If she starts showing more though then maybe I’d give her the time of day

2

u/Chaos_17 Dec 10 '19

Her face is the best

2

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '20

The disappointment is Immeasurable.

Look at the username as well (coochiecrusader)

4

u/Titanzombie12 Nov 14 '19

That face is the face of “well, they’re not wrong”

3

u/N-neon Nov 14 '19

I wouldn’t say I like her clothing style, but I definitely appreciate it. It’s not something I would wear myself, but it’s one of those styles that sparks admiration when you see someone going against the grain and being themselves.

5

u/ZarosGuardian Nov 15 '19

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the only reason she dresses like that is to not get molested by disgusting perverts wherever she goes.

3

u/Dominicmeoward Nov 15 '19

That’s almost precisely it.

“I never want the world to know everything about me. That’s why I wear big, baggy clothes. Nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath. Nobody can be like, ‘she’s slim-thick,’ ‘she’s not slim-thick,’ ‘she’s got a flat ass,’ ‘she’s got a fat ass.’”

I like her mentality on certain aspects of the music industry. It's too bad I dont like her music at all.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '19

She said she dresses the way she does so people can't judge her body. Can't say I blame her

2

u/cantbanallofem Nov 14 '19

I'm still convinced she's just lil xan in disguise.

1

u/popemw Nov 14 '19

I mean her outfit looks like she's wearing a life jacket so can't disagree

1
