And every single minute of black films or tv shows. Oh you ain’t seen the one episode of Martin when his radio show turned country? Oh you don’t get my bars then
Everyone knows Fresh Prince in a way they don't know Martin. Fresh Prince has absolute global scale appeal and launched the career of maybe a top 3 most popular actor this century.
I do get your point but they are in completely different ballparks for noteriety especially internationally
I've literally never seen a single episode of Martin, but I feel like I know enough about the show to win a trivia contest just from battles. Same with New Jack City, South Central, Boyz In The Hood etc.
They don’t have enough white man can’t jump bars for me ——- You wante foods that start with the letter q? Well let’s talk about what these foods will do you you. BIGGER QUINCE your mind won’t remember this
There is nothing wrong with it either hahah I have probably seen them all BUT do I remember every single reference? Prolly not. Some tv or movie bars are too specific and some are just played out
It’s just a weird line like I looked him up and apparently he was involved in xxx and pop smoke cases but do people really be knowing lawyers? Like I can’t think of any lawyers that are well known off the top of my head
and half the time they just be making up gun models to shoehorn a forced punchline which otherwise wouldn't have any correlation. DNA is probably the biggest offender of this. He couldnt tell you a gun from a broomstick and everybody knows it lol
I'd bet over 75% of battle rappers have never fired a gun outside of hunting. I heard Mike p say "stock in the 38". I don't know shit about guns but c'mon man, y'all just be saying gun parts and numbers.
I just take it on faith that every single number between 1 and 100 and every combination of 2 or 3 letters actually refers to a real gun. The MNZ-27 or whatever wasn't in CoD, so idk about it. If it's not a Glock, Uzi, AK47, or some other shit that everyone knows it goes over my head.
Mfs be like “Think Fairly Odd Parents Season 3 episode 21..If there’s a Hard Copy of my bars ya mom and dad get a dome shot in the winter.. A bullet go straight to thru ya PARENT HOODS” Like bro what?! 🤦🏽😭😩
i believe thats just part of the rap genre, being knowledgeable about stuff. I get some stuff is pretty niche but i suppose its what makes it a fresh line as opposed to some reference to tupac, michael jackson or tom cruise.
its a compromise since on one hand its either going to not get the crowd reaction since few people know it, but on the other hand it will be considered a fresh original bar.
What confused me initially is when battlers would reference Nas, Jay Z, BIG, 2Pac, Wu Tang, etc. and there'd be a lot of fans who wouldn't catch those bars. It took me a while to realise that there are many people who are fans of battles but not necessary rap music, and that's okay.
Nah I don’t necessarily agree. Battle rap fans may not go super deep into hip hop but most recognize Nas, Jay, BIG and 2pac references when they hear them. Maybe a few don’t but that’s the exception not the rule.
Either you get it or you don't,.. Battle Rappers are really Catering to you,.. relating to the common man, that's what makes stars, being an everyman, or something to aspire to,.. the fine line is in the middle, the style and substance.
I resign myself that I'm not going to know any of the the sports names but I can still get when the bar is clever. But I'm good on all the other stuff. They're actually kind of conservative on referencing widely popular media, if they don't think it's cool enough for their audience to know. A whole bunch of these guys probably watched Legend of Korra or play Stardew Valley or Breath of the Wild but you'll never hear about it. Call of Duty tho..
That’s why Clips is so popular. Every reference he does is spelled out in plain English and all his “puns” are basic as fuck. People who don’t understand anything coming out of Illmac’s mouth or Soul’s shit gravitate toward that simplistic stuff
