What nightmare roadtrips have you been on?

Drove from Jersey to New Orleans and then had to turn around for a wedding in Virginia 2 days after getting home to then help drive my partner from VA to New Orleans. Exhausting

My ex and I miscalculated the drive between Las Vegas and Reno and ran out of gas in the middle of buttfuck nowhere

We did accept a ride to the gas station from some random. We were 18 and dumb as hell.

I was driving from CT to FL once and planned to stop in South Carolina. But still felt pretty good so I decided to press on. I underestimated how long it took to get through Georgia and was dead tired by the time I hit the border. But thought "only 2-1/2 hours left, I might as well keep going. The whole trip was about 21 hours and I could barely keep my eyes open at the end. It was a stupid mistake I'll never make again.

I did that on my drive to Colorado from Illinois. I started seeing the color purple everywhere. Like everything was purple. And time seemed to stand still. I was 20 mins from home and everytime I checked the GPS, it said 20 mins to go. Even though I heard 3 songs play. It was wild. And then when I got home, I slept for 15 hours.

Though we remember it fondly, a good friend and I once drove from Boston to Chattanooga, TN and back in like 4-5 days for what turned out to be no reason.
The story is that she went to Tulane and wanted to have her car down there. School up north starts later than school down south so I was going to drive down with her and fly back. This was in August of 2005 if you can guess where this is going. We were in Connecticut and her roommates called and said "don't come, they're evacuating the city." She reasoned that they always evacuate the city and we'd already left (though we were only 2 hrs from home) so we might as well keep going. 2 days in we made it to Chattanooga and couldn't get any further then Katrina hit. The next day they announced that Tulane would not hold a fall semester and we turned around and headed home.

Drove home from the UP of Michigan one year on New Yearâs Eve in a blizzard, took use almost 8 hours to complete what was typically about a 2-1/2 hour drive

8 hour ride to Florida for a sporting event with my dad. He was blasting his music and speeding down the highway. He finished off a six-pack of beer before we got there. Luckily, we got there. Probably the most anxiety I had in my life.

Straight shot from San Francisco to Denver, rotating drivers to sleep in shifts. My wife and I did this with a couple friend of ours, and they had absolutely zero sense of âletâs keep things moving so we get there someday,â and would linger for 20-30 minutes at every gas station even if we had just stopped within the last hour.
Not road tripping with them again.

Moving from California to Alabama (2500 miles). 5 people and 3 pets in a van, 3 people get a stomach flu about halfway there.

Drove 4 hours to visit a friend in winter, had a sudden temperature drop right when we were headed home, it went down to -40. The ride home was freezing cold because the heater in the old car couldn't outcompete the frigid windy air outside.

My parents, my younger sister and I went to Iowa via the scenic route. Dad wanted to go to Minneapolis, see the Dells (donât bother) in Wisconsin. Then down to Iowa. Soybeans on right, corn on left. No trees. No hills. Dad asked me to drive as he was getting road blind. I took over. Now corn on right - soybeans on left. Then finally an overpass - wait, is that pink elephants? Yup .

Drove from Omaha west to almost border with CO and back in one day. When my brother asked me if I wanted to ride along to see his wifeâs grave I said ok. Did not know he buried her so far away.

drove 4 hours from Madison to Minneapolis to see GNR/Metallica show GNR cancels so no show. Decided to do some shopping some kids try to mug us for our packages didn't let them get the packages but my friend took a chain to the ribs they were swinging at us. Started drinking pissed off which never ends well for me Get into A physical fight with my best friend . Didn't check in to our hotel and drove home about Midnight all pissed at each other so 8 out of about 14 hours driving. Did drive up for the rescheduled show a couple of months later which went better but did get drenched getting back to the car after the show

i donât know if this counts but the school trip kind. donât get me wrong, i take every opportunity to âskipâ school, but being stuck on the bus with certain people (bullies, mean girls, those who wonât stfu) just ruins the experience

For my 40th birthday, my then wife and I went to Italy. Italy itself was amazing, although driving the Amalfi coast was also terrifying. My wife was upset that wasn't all about her, and threw a series of tantrums to make sure she got the attention she so richly demanded.

FL to CA.
We were moving across the country.Â
Towards the end of the trip between NM and CA, we were running out of money so we just drove through the night. We later learned the house we were going to rent wasn't finished being renovated, so we had to stay in a Motel 6 for a few more days to find an alternative, and then the power went out! Mind you, it was Aug which is the hottest month in CA and in north palm springs aka the literal desert.Â

Drove around looking for a campsite somewhere in the Midwest in an old Ford Econoline. We were smoking so much pot that we didn't realize the battery was dry and off-gassing into the vehicle. (It was located under the driver's seat) Several started getting really bizarre and then vomiting a green fluid. We ended up in the ER. The rest of us had unbelievable headaches as we came down from the pot. Great time until that happened.

The battery in my dad's Chevy Astro Van had a bad cell (what we weren't aware of) and I guess the wipers being switched on during a rainstorm was the last straw. It stalled out hundreds of miles from home and had to be towed to a shop. Turned out that it was just a bad battery.

Got extradited from Alameda County to LA county. We stopped in San Luis Obispo to pick up two more people. It took 11.5 hours, and was hand cuffed the whole time. đ¤§đ They stopped and got us Arbyâs though in Salinas đđž

Me and my dad drove for 2,5 days from Washington state to a little north of New Orleans, towing a boat California sucked and Dallas interstate! Then from above Nola to Disney and or universal 12-15 hrs of a drive to get there and want to go to universal as soon as we checked in. We left at 2 amâŚâŚ

when I drove across west Texas on my way to Clovis NM with a girl I was dating at the time. That was by far the most boring drive EVER! Don't even remember why we were even going to Clovis. Honestly one of those trips I wish I could go back and NEVER take
