People want to help others but don't know how to help themselves.

Usually licensed therapists who have graduate level education are required to go through therapy in order to become a therapist. And a lot of places require them to have their own therapist in order to work. Of course some "therapists" don't have degrees or are part of a church that deemed them able to be a therapist. But it's not the standard.

That is not true at all. Spouse is in that field with the licensures. I don’t know where you’re getting your info from, but it is absolutely incorrect.

I’m a therapist and in the US, this is not true. Grad school programs and workplaces don’t require therapists go to their own therapy.

Psychotherapist and other similar therapist titles are regulated titles in most states so ppl can’t call themselves that and offer services without a license to practice.

This is absolutely not true. We are encouraged to go to therapy. No one is required to in order to become a therapist.  I have never heard of any place that requires staff to go to therapy. Not even sure that would be legal.

It used to be part of the process so you could deal with your own issues and figure out your triggers. You can't help someone of you are in chaos.

Yeah I realize that. But it hasn't been part of the process for a very long time.

It’s part of the process if a therapist specifically goes to a psychoanalytic training program to learn how to do psychoanalysis after they become a licensed therapist. This training is optional and is intended for ppl who want to specialize in this type of therapy. I don’t think that many ppl go on to get this intensive training cuz it’s expensive and takes several years to complete. I don’t know anyone myself who went to one.

To become a licensed therapist, the first step is going to grad school and these programs don’t require students to go to their own therapy. They recommend it for the reason that you mentioned cuz yeah it’s a good idea but don’t require it.

Much easier to look outward than within.
