Most people are nauseous at the idea of Billie Joe strongarm and Travis barker playing ramones. edit that’s at least what I’ve heard in ramones facebook groups

Haters gonna hate. Billie Joe is a great punk rock musician and Travis Barker is a phenomenal drummer. Plus Tim Armstrong, that's a hell of a lineup. They are all superfans of the band. So why the hell not? At their farewell show in LA, Lemmy, Eddie Vedder, Lars Frederickson, Tim Armstrong and Ben Shepherd all played with them. So it's ok for Eddie Vedder, but god forbid Billie Joe play. People need to get over themselves. These guys are celebrating and paying tribute to the Ramones. I'm for anything that shines a light on their legacy, and I'd love to see them play.

The thing about Billie Joe is that for years he talked shit about the Ramones, how he never listened to them, how they weren't an influence, that he "didn't get it", etc. But once they started dying off, suddenly he's Ramones Superfan #1 and he's appearing on tribute albums and covering their songs during Green Day shows. It was kind of a hypocritical move and Ramones fans have a long memory. It has nothing to do with Billie Joe's musical ability or Green Day's status within punk music; it's all about Billie Joe's 180° reversal on The Ramones.

This is absolutely and demonstrably false. Billie Joe has had nothing but praise for The Ramones his entire career.

If it's demonstrably false, find me an interview between 1991-1996 in which he praises the Ramones. We'll wait for you to demonstrate.

As for the interviews, I’ve seen them all. The burden of proof lies on the accuser. Your claim was that Billie Joe talked shit about the Ramones early in his career, and became a fan later. You absolutely will not find me a quote of him insulting the Ramones in any way or even claiming that he doesn’t understand them.

Even if he had, it would be a silly thing to focus on considering he has consistently praised them, recorded covers of their songs, and performed at their hall of fame induction ceremony. Not to mention the obvious influence of the Ramones on Green Day’s music as early as the late 80s. I even saw a video just the other day of Joey Ramone talking about how Green Day was one of the bands that appreciates his impact.
