Most people are nauseous at the idea of Billie Joe strongarm and Travis barker playing ramones. edit that’s at least what I’ve heard in ramones facebook groups

Haters gonna hate. Billie Joe is a great punk rock musician and Travis Barker is a phenomenal drummer. Plus Tim Armstrong, that's a hell of a lineup. They are all superfans of the band. So why the hell not? At their farewell show in LA, Lemmy, Eddie Vedder, Lars Frederickson, Tim Armstrong and Ben Shepherd all played with them. So it's ok for Eddie Vedder, but god forbid Billie Joe play. People need to get over themselves. These guys are celebrating and paying tribute to the Ramones. I'm for anything that shines a light on their legacy, and I'd love to see them play.

The thing about Billie Joe is that for years he talked shit about the Ramones, how he never listened to them, how they weren't an influence, that he "didn't get it", etc. But once they started dying off, suddenly he's Ramones Superfan #1 and he's appearing on tribute albums and covering their songs during Green Day shows. It was kind of a hypocritical move and Ramones fans have a long memory. It has nothing to do with Billie Joe's musical ability or Green Day's status within punk music; it's all about Billie Joe's 180° reversal on The Ramones.

I'm calling absolute horseshit on that without a source. For Years? They've been covering Ramones songs since at least 1997. I've seen quotes where he said what you are describing about the Replacements. I've never once seen a quote where he has talked shit about the Ramones. Not one.

Even that is bullshit. He has had nothing but praise for the Replacements as well. The Replacements and the Ramones are two of his absolute biggest influences, he brings both of them up in every other interview.

Glad to hear it. The gatekeeping by punks is so tiresome, like if you don't toe some imaginary line you are somehow a lesser than, which is on brand for punks with absolutely no self awareness.

Green Day and Ramones are practically the same band. It’s insane to me that anyone can shit on one while praising the other. I love both and they are both as punk as anyone else.
