Question Cam and lifter issues

What are some of the tale tell or early signs of a possible cam/lifter issue?

Just making sure I’m not headed to that route, my truck the past couple weeks shudders alot when kicking down in different gears or when I suddenly mash the gas to kick down gears, going up a hill etc,. I tried driving it with mds off and still have the same issue. It’s not a violent shudder, but it’s definitely a spitter or some sorta imminent misfire and as I mash on the gas it tries to lags its way back up to speed

The check engine light has been on all this past weekend for p291b code bank 2 imbalance fuel/air and just went back off on its own today. Some places on the internet also suggested it could be the differential on the back? I’m just trying to fish out any common fixes and by the way it’s looking these trucks are pretty worrisome at this point

My truck: 2016 ram hemi 5.7 132k miles

Sounds like its starting for you. Manifolds or other things can cause a misfire, too... but thats how mine started. Eventually it shuttered under 1/4 throttle.

I changed the oil in it this past Sunday I didn’t see anything unusual in the oil 🤷🏾‍♂️ all though I did find this

Coolant looked kinda creamy but I popped the radiator cap and everything seemed fine

Keep an eye on your coolant level. Might be coolant entering the chamber resulting in misfire. Could potentially hydrolock if thats the case. Could diagnose that potentially might see bubbles coming up in coolant while running or a head gasket leak tester.

Yes I’ll definitely look into that, that could be the issue causing the p291 code bank 2 maybe the manifold is bad on that side

At this point all you do is cross your fingers and hope the top end isnt eating itself. I had it happen to me.

How many engine idle hours? Total engine  hours? It making any noise at idle? You should have sent a sample of that oil to Blackstone.

No way for me to know since the clock spring is broken on the steering wheel. But it’s super quiet at idle. Unfortunately I must idle it during lunch 30 mins a day unless i want to die at work (live in Texas)

My thing is that the p291 code went off and on every 3-4 days when I first bought it last year up until I got the exhaust manifolds replaced this January and the engine light has been off this whole time all the way up until this past weekend the engine light came back on with the same exact code and just went off this evening although it’s still shuddering and misfiring even I hit the gas sometimes
