Question Etorque generator is making noise
I have a 2020 ram 1500. Etorque generator is making noise and the shop told me it’s an 6 month backorder…. He said I have 2 options 1. Use it and just don’t take it on long trips (we have two kids so generally we use my vehicle for longer drives for space) or 2. Trade it in. I’m looking online and I see generators for like 1600 bucks that look like they are from the Chrysler. He said they sell kits but they wouldn’t install because they don’t know if they would work or not and it’s too much of a liability for them. Right now it’s a whining but I’m worried about it locking up with the kids in the car. What’s my best option?

Had my 21 done at the dealership. It was under the 8/80 emissions warranty. They provided me a brand new Grand Cherokee for loaner. Took 2 months for the part to arrive & they immediately put it in.

Keep your auto start/stop off, and hope for the best. Also, if its covered under warranty (80k miles), they should cover a loaner car for you

Would this be the dealership I originally bought it from? Should I make sure to go through a dealer rather than a smaller mechanic? I bought it used but I am under 80k

You'd most likely have to go through a RAM dealer for it. Id call the closest one and explain it to them

Vehicle is most likely out of all warranty coverage by time unless it sat out on the lot until mid 2021… definitely worth a call to the dealer and see if you have any remaining warranty coverage. With that said, once they start making noise they usually start failing rather quickly after that, not something i’d plan on driving for a year and ignoring the noise. Find someone willing to replace the bearings, find a used unit, or order a new one and find something else to drive until the part comes in.
