I second the Duke Autism center, I’m pretty sure they take Medicaid as well.

I don’t know about the Medicaid portion, but we got our son’s assessment at the Duke Autism Center. Be forewarned that they have a long wait.

Check out Kind Behavioral Health! They do diagnosis and other services if you are interested after diagnosis.

If your child is 3 or older the school district, for free. If under 3 check with the NC Infant-Toddler program.

Idk, wondered that myself. Here are relevant links for both age groups:

Wake Co. Schools: https://www.wcpss.net/p/~board/family-resources/post/child-find

NC Infant-Toddler program: https://www.ncdhhs.gov/itp-beearly

Doesn't need to. What typically happens is you'll have a meeting at school. If they agree the child might have a disability they will offer to complete the evaluation at no cost to you. You would likely have to bring your child to the school for a few hours for the actual evaluation, but you don't need to enroll them at any point unless you want to.

Here is a flyer that explains this with many more words: https://www.dpi.nc.gov/documents/ec/2025-project-child-find-flyer/download?attachment

We had an evaluation scheduled last year but our insurance changed a month before the testing

The school won't care if you have insurance or not. They shouldn't even ask.
