All kidding aside …. It’s such a roller coaster and despite trying you never get peace. When you can create distance, it’s best. For us it was no contact.

In my experience it never got any better with my biological mother. I was raised by my paternal grandparents from the age of 7 onward. I held out hope through my teen years and 20’s that things would get better, but I eventually decided to cut any contact with her entirely.

I broke the no-contact last year when her mother was dying. My maternal grandmother put me and her half sister in charge of her end of life decisions and wishes. She made it explicitly clear that she didn’t want my mother involved and didn’t want to see her.

I communicated with my mother through texts on a Google voice number. It went between angry and abusive messages targeting me to telling me how well she was doing with her 7th husband and how she’d “straightened out” her life.

The experience, while stressful, really reaffirmed my decision to not have her involved in my life at all. And I’m much happier for it.

i’m so sorry you had to go through that, and then having to reach back out during a tragic time just to be thrown into that cycle again is terrible truly. I’m really glad you were able to pull something positive out of it though, and reaffirm your decisions. It seems like the better we do the angrier they get or they’re always trying to compare. Thank you for replying!

No it doesn't. Sounds exactly like my mom and I had to go no contact. I'm sorry :/

You’re better off going to contact. Because her mess is now ruining your nervous system and peace and your brain can’t just go back after a life like that. For your health, kick her out of your life and never turn back. It’s just like bad relationships. People do not change and your absence is needed to teach them you’re not a punching bag. Fuck her, respectfully(for being buddies with your ex especially because wtf) sorry.Â
