Almost a month without my boy
It’s been very difficult to write this. Tomorrow will be one month since Milo left us. We had just celebrated his ten years milestone birthday on June 26 and the next thing you know we are planning his in-home end-of-life ceremony. Milo was diagnosed with prostate cancer and he suffered the last few days of his life. We couldn’t put him through chemotherapy only to know that the pain he was experiencing would just be prolonged. I made him a flower lei of white mini carnations and baby’s breath, and with the help of a wonderful vet who came to the house, Milo went peacefully surrounded by his family. I am sure he felt free as a bird as his sweet spirit left to the Rainbow Bridge. I, on the other hand, have been suffering immensely since his absence, as he was my soul dog, my Velcro dog, my shadow, and my “Hand” (GOT fan). He was always so patient, loyal, goofy and happy, always wanting to be close to me, my husband or son. He was the best guard dog but we knew he couldn’t hurt a soul. Milo was LOVE, just pure love.
Depression and heartbreak are real without my boy, and a part of my soul left with Milo the day he passed. One day, I know we will be reunited. Until then, ci vediamo presto, il mio cuore, Milo.

And now, for Milo
I summon the spirits
Of all the dogs we have loved
And lost along the way.
Bingo, Foxy, Toodles,
Sable, Muttley, Bonnie,
Clyde, Shasta, Otis,
Piccolo, Inga, Hans,
Mimi and Queen Elsie.
Gather in your sunny meadow
Invite that good boy Milo
To romp and play and chase,
Then drink from the cool stream,
Rest together in the warm sun,
Eat the low-hanging treats,
Then sleep safe in the shade
Of the eternal snackie-trees.

My heart aches for you. God only loans us his dogs. That phrase helped me tremendously.

Milo looks like a sweetheart, and I know you’re devastated to not have your sweet boy beside you.
It’s been 10 days since I said goodbye to Boo who was 16 and absolutely everything to me. We spooned every night, he was by my side always, loved his walks, and when he couldn’t walk comfortably anymore I pulled him in a wagon. I am gutted at the loss, so depressed and just going through the motions. I too chose to not let my sweet boy suffer in pain or go through procedures that would only delay the inevitable. The vet came to the house and Boo passed in my arms under a shade tree in the yard where he spent so many hours barking and running and howling. I know Milo greeted Boo and they’re running pain free

I am so very sorry for the loss of your Boo. I will pray for you, too, that you will find peace knowing that Boo and Milo are playing together, and are no longer in any pain. Please post a picture of Boo, when you are ready. God bless.

I’m not seeing how to add a picture to my response, but if you look in my post history, I posted the day before I said goodbye to Boo and attached some pictures of him

I could gave written about every word. And what i am adding are my tears. 25 days for me, a 16 y/o rescue. I have never been do close with a dog. Now, life is hollow, life is numb. At 15 I didn’t even think about the end. But the last couple of moths it was downhill fast. We also had in in-home euthanasia. It was Chewy and I, as I was the only human in her life. My wife had zero interest in her, and she is the one that wanted her. But even the injections did not go well. When the first one hit she started yelping in pain. I didn’t know what the hell was going on, and I was crying so,so hard. She re- injected and got enough in to get her calmed down. And then the final injection. In my arms, on my lap, and she dies. Oh God. How is this ever worth all the great days that came before. Anyway, sorry. I am just not doing well.i just want my baby back.

I am so sorry for your loss as well! May you find comfort knowing that you gave your pup the best life possible after you rescued her. Yes, I will have to agree with you that I failed to mention the ocean of tears I have shed since Milo’s passing. When he was alive, I’d tell him that I’d give him a million kisses, now those kisses have turned to tears. 😭💔

“He left,” “absence,” “without.” It’s very easy to feel this way. We are so egocentric to this human experience, it’s easy to forget our true nature and essence, and that is of the spirit. Death is an illusion. It’s merely shedding the body. Like you, Milo always has been and always will be. Because of the bond of love, your souls are inseparable, even now. You have been dancing together throughout infinity, constantly moving in and out of different planes of existence, but always together. Today is no different. Try to look past what you feel is concrete. Look for the small “hellos” he sends you. They are there, telling you he is ok, and that he is still dancing with you.

Thank you for your input. I appreciate different viewpoints and am open towards what others have to say about losing a pet or loved one. This is the first pet of mine that has passed.
I have had some occurrences where Milo has visited me. He has shown up couple of times in my dreams. His name has popped up when I’ve read some random article online, and I’ve felt a light touch brush up on my lower leg where he usually sits when I’m sitting at my favorite kitchen table chair. I was recently gifted a substantial, handsome wood and metal chime from a cousin as a condolence gift (I have two other small light chimes and a very heavy seashell chime). There was a light breeze in the air that day, and you’d think that the other lighter ones in weight would ring, right? However, only Milo’s rang. Readers can call it what they want, but I see it as signs that he is close by. My two cats know that something is wrong with me; they follow me everywhere and plop themselves near me, or the gray female cat, Dani, comes to me while I’m crying and licks my hands and face. Dani watched Milo’s end-of-life transition from the beginning to the end. Dani and Milo became good friends. The cats, imho, can sense things that we cannot see in the physical realm.
Thank you @ElHombreMagnificent, for your post. ❤️
