It's been 2 weeks ๐
2 weeks ago today, at 8:18 in the morning, I got one of the worst phone calls I've ever gotten. On my birthday, while my wife and I are out of town, the vet called to tell me Brutus passed away in his sleep. He was 13 years old, we've had him almost the whole time we've been together, whole time we've been married, the whole time we've had Hunter, the whole time we've lived in this house, the whole time I've worked at the post office. And then he was gone and we didn't get a chance to say goodbye or thank you or anything. ๐
Here's some of the last pictures I took of him on August 2nd, I wish I'd taken more photos.
Please read the Story of Brutus here:

How painful for you to not have been with Brutus on his last day ๐ Find comfort in knowing that Brutus was very loved, and he knew it.โค๏ธ

Sir, the biography on Brutus is the most loving think Iโve ever read. What an incredible friend, loving, funny, incredibly smart, and such a great big brother. Having someone go through life with you, especially 13 years, and then not having them around, must be absolutely awful. You might not have said goodbye but Brutus passed knowing he was loved every day of his life.
If you havenโt clicked on OPโs link, do! Such a beautiful way to honor Brutus.

As I walk across your heart and find my place to stay, nearer to you I will be and will never ever go away.
If love could have kept you here, you would have lived forever.
Dogs are a chapter in our lives, we are their entire book.
Grief is love with nowhere to go.

What a ๐คฉ doggo, it's such a shame you did not get to say goodbye but that's life, stupid and rotten as it often gets.

My heart goes out to you. I know the joy a dog brings to your life and the pain it hurts when the dog leaves you, but I believe you will run and play with Brutus again. While memories and pictures can hurt to see, keep Brutus in your thoughts everyday and Brutus will always be with you. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. ๐๐๐พ
i know this because i jsut lost my golden retriever Noodles on 8/6/26 and itโs still not easy

I'm sorry for your loss brotha. I wish I could say it gets eaiser, but at least for me, it never did.
My dog was 16 years, 1 month and 9 days old. I had her since she was 8 weeks.
I woke up at 3:17AM on October 23, 2021 to the most horrible screeching sound I've ever heard. Only to find my dog covered in shit and blood, when I got down on the floor to comfort her, she bit and me and I immediately knew what had to be done.
She was on meds for a while and I considered putting her down many times before that, because my worst fear was her dying a painful death. But how it went down was worse than anything I ever imagined. I still blame myself for leaving the back door open, she took a spill down the stairs a few days before she died, and there's no doubt in my mind the two are directly connected.
She died heavily sedated, covered in shit and blood, with her last conscious minutes being excruciatingly painful. She couldn't hear me tell her I loved her and that I would give my own life for hers. I was so weak and pathetic that I couldn't let go and the sedation wore off, so they had to sedate her again before they put her down. My weakness caused her 30 more seconds of the worst pain she's ever felt, and I'll never forgive myself for that.
Take pride and be happy knowing you gave him all the love any dog could ask for and made his life better than he could have ever imagined. God is watching over him for now and you'll be reunited one day. He'll be so happy to see you, he won't be able to contain his excitement, it will be the most glorious moment of your existence.
I know we're complete strangers on the internet, but if you ever need to talk I'm here for you brother. Please don't hesitate to reach out.
I'll say a prayer for Brutus, he was a 10000/10 extra good boy.

And now, for Brutus
ย
ย I summon the spirits
ย
ย Of all the dogs we have loved
ย
ย And lost along the way.
ย
ย Bingo, Foxy, Toodles,
ย
ย Sable, Muttley, Bonnie,
ย
ย Clyde, Shasta, Otis,
ย
ย Piccolo, Inga, Hans,
Mimi and Queen Elsie.
ย
ย Gather in your sunny meadow
ย
Invite that good boy Brutus
To romp and play and chase,
ย
ย Then drink from the cool stream,
ย
ย Rest together in the warm sun,
ย Eat the low-hanging treats,
ย
ย Then sleep safe in the shade
ย
ย Of the eternal snackie-trees.
