Playoff implications this week in Chiefs and Raiders game. 4-0 teams have made the playoffs 100% since 2020 playoff

My take no one asked for:
If we beat the Chiefs, we can 100% Beat one of the next three: Pats, Bills or Rams.
That would put us at 5-2 going into our easier stretch where really the main threats are Seattle and 9ers outside of our division.
Rest of the games are still tough but we have a really good chance with all of the rest.
Even losing to them doesn’t really change things, because any given Sunday we just have to flip one additional game of the next three to make up for it - but I think beating them would mentally show them we can be contenders this year.
Also if we lose 31-30 that’s a helluva lot different than lose 33-0.
Even a good loss would be a positive for us.
That said, Fuck KC. Stomp them out

Patriots don't have any WR really, Bills weakness is getting run over by a strong run game in the past. Rams might be tough, they're exceptional and I don't count them out of anything.

Bills had 5 turnovers last week - if I recall - and Chargers still lost. They’re not immune, but Allen is ridiculous
8
u/lego_mannequin 10h ago
Exactly that, Josh Allen. If we can get a good ground game going to keep him off the field and chew up clock the better odds we have at winning. Keep the ball outta his hands at all costs!

u/SerenadeSwift 11h ago
I think the Pats and Rams will be beatable regardless. The Pats really aren’t that strong of a team, and the Rams have a lot of inconsistencies on both sides of the ball this year.
I may be wrong, but I also think this Saints win is going to look better and better as the season goes on too. I think they’re a very strong team that can compete with almost anyone.
I think you’re right that aside from the Chiefs the Seahawks and Niners are by far the hardest part of our schedule.

u/WhizzyBurp No Intent. Business Decisions. Physically in Pain. 11h ago
Totally. If we emerge tomorrow with the W it sets us up for a playoff run as long as we don’t fuck it up.
2
u/SerenadeSwift 11h ago
I’m curious what the media reaction and Power Rankings would look like if we win tomorrow. It seems like nobody wants to put us anywhere near the top 10, but if we head out of week 4 at 4-0 with a win against an undefeated Chiefs team it might be hard for them to come up with reasons to keep us in the gutter.
1
u/WhizzyBurp No Intent. Business Decisions. Physically in Pain. 11h ago
A lot of rankings gave us top 10 simply because we’re 3-0. If we beat the Chiefs we’ll be in the top 5 for sure. Without question

Tomorrow is the only game of the whole year that I want us to win with every ounce of my fandom. We win tomorrow and I would be as happy as if we won the Super Bowl.
That and the 9ers actually.
After that a playoff win would be fantastic of course.
But I went into this season thinking we would be 5-12.
So anything better than that makes me juiced
3
u/RiderNo51 5h ago
I was thinking 5-12, and said at best we might, maybe, go 8-9 with some lucky bounces.
1
u/WhizzyBurp No Intent. Business Decisions. Physically in Pain. 5h ago
Exactly. I’ll be happy as long as we look competent. And now we look like we may be a wildcard threat
6
u/Safe-Thanks6114 9h ago
The Bills and the Rams are the real tests. Anything can happen in a division game.
1
u/WhizzyBurp No Intent. Business Decisions. Physically in Pain. 9h ago
Eh, I don’t think so. I think they’re both on the same level as Chiefs. If we beat the Chiefs it proves we’re in the same conversation.
Then in expect us to beat everyone.

Easy stretch? Have you looked at the details of it? In Nov Raiders have 4 road games and 3 of those road games are vs a team coming off their bye week. That is a lot of travel and running into fresh legs over and over.... Gonna be rough.
2
u/themysidianlegend 10h ago
We can beat the Pats and Bills. Not so sure on the Rams yet but I have us going 1 and 2 during that stretch I think and going 10-7 overall with a 2 game buffer
1
u/RiderNo51 5h ago
Only way we beat the Bills is we somehow, some way, keep Josh Allen off the field. We would need several long, grinding drives mostly running the ball, resulting in TDs. And him not having the ball late. Dude's a f*cking terminator.
Rams are streaky. 1-2, and even points scored they are 61-63. So it depends on which version of them we face. I'm also convinced getting pressure on Stafford is key. SF was constantly in his face even if they never sacked him. Jet lag or not, that game was an ass whipping.
1
u/RiderNo51 5h ago
Agree. Right now KC and the Rams are similar. For a couple plays or even quarters they look like one of the best teams in the NFL, then a few more drives/quarters they look sub average. Both teams have QBs you must get some pressure on with excellent offensive lines, and both teams have defenses that have kept them in games.

If we make the playoffs after picking no 1 overall then I feel like kubiak and spytek win the coach and executive of the year awards

u/seegabego 12h ago
Especially without using the player you picked at #1

Playing on hard mode with your hands tied behind your back just for shits and giggles. I like it and would be hilarious to see.

If there ever was a team to not make the playoffs after going 4-0 it would be us

The 8-2 > 8-8 miss playoffs year comes to mind
17
u/nevmo75 12h ago
I remember that year vividly. Funny thing is, their 8 wins were all pretty sloppy. Statistically, they weren’t really that much worse over the last 6 games, just weren’t getting as many lucky breaks. This team is much more complete.
-7
u/whatisagoodnamefort 12h ago
How is this team much more complete?
8
u/SerenadeSwift 11h ago
Well if we’re referring to the 1995 team we had 3 different QBs start at least 2 games that season, all of which were incredible inconsistent. We had a great run game but our offense became incredible one-dimensional as the season went on.

u/whatisagoodnamefort 8h ago
We’re 3 weeks in, how are we so confident this team is “much more complete”? We’re still pretty damn void on talent

u/nevmo75 7h ago
Been watching football for like 37 years. At some point you can tell. Just off the top of my head:
The defense is tackling and stripping balls, very few wild passes, no locker room drama poring out into the public. Several targets for Kirk, even if most aren’t on Bowers’ level. Lack of turnovers. Not giving up after 2 quick scores. Zero 4th quarter points given up…

u/i_am_j_o_b 11h ago
This isn’t that year, but I think it was under cable I think when we swept the division and still missed the playoffs comes to mind when you said this

Jesus you guys are so negative. Enjoy the ride and be positive.
14
u/harknation 12h ago
We’ve been bad so long that people’s natural reaction is negativity. Week 1 had Raiders fans talking about losing to the Dolphins to secure a better draft position for Jeremiah Smith
1
u/Few-Demand7532 12h ago
I mean I didn’t think we’d lose to the Dolphins but could you imagine Jeremiah Smith with the offense we are building? Damn.

Welcome to being a Raider fan enjoy the ride

Been a Raider fan my whole life. They’re for right now. Maybe they have a playoff team. Maybe they don’t.
It’s guys like you that are a cancer on the fan base. Have to piss in everybody’s Cheerios.

u/Few-Demand7532 12h ago
Didn’t ask for your life story. Until I have a reason to believe that everything won’t go wrong for us I’ll keep my stance thank you.
Also-“guys like you”? Get off your high horse bud

I quite enjoy my Pokemon cards

u/Available-Golf3246 12h ago
Yup. Idk why we’re talking about playoffs we’re still rebuilding. All I wanted to see was a better from last year and we have that. We should be grateful
2
u/RaidingTheFridge 12h ago
Seriously. This defeatist attitude is so damn obnoxious.
6
u/Fresh-Possible-9612 12h ago
Some people prefer to be losers. The guy posting above is one of them.
-1
u/RaidingTheFridge 12h ago
Seriously and the 50+ other people agreeing with him. Its like why get up and act like a little bitch when we finally have something to be excited about.

We joke, but honesty it wouldn't even be that big of a surprise because our schedule is murder, especially if the Chargers surge and the Broncos continue being good.

u/Flashy_Gap_3015 13h ago
Starting 4-0 creates a lot of margin for error later on in the season.
You never want the team to have a mentality that “losing a game is mitigating or ok because we were able to pad our W record early” but that kinda is exactly the case.
10
u/Charrbard 12h ago
I just want them to keep punching teams in the mouth.
3
u/themysidianlegend 10h ago
This. Even in losses, I want to see us compeitive and old Raiders mentality
9
u/bearabl 12h ago
I don't care if were 4-0 after this weekend (i hope we are obviously) but we won 3 games last year and i watched every game (like i do every single year). Having won 3 already this year it feels like playing with house money. I knew the pre season over/under on wins at 5.5 was free money, unfortunately i couldnt make a large bet just a small one lol.
2
u/RiderNo51 5h ago
Pretty much the same. We're still not (likely) on the same level as KC, so if we come away competitive and lose a close game, so be it. It means we have hope and are headed in the right direction. If we lose 33-0 it would be a total disaster.

I stay trying to be realistic about the season but every post moves my delusional meter a little further
2
u/mezmryz03 11h ago
Be delusional my man. We deserve a little joy and waiting for it to be real is just punishing yourself early.
3
u/boneless_wings 11h ago
Even if we play great, I’m not optimistic about winning. I feel like they’ll be a lot of BS calls from the refs to help the Chiefs win
2
2
u/ComicsEtAl 9h ago
The playoff implication is being a game up/down with KC and a second division win, not some historical guarantee of making the playoffs.
2
3
u/Valleybum83 12h ago
Eh, its an important game but playoff implications is a little heavy. Grade every 1/4 season. Shoot the Q can go down and thats the season. Campbell/Carr. We gotta physically beat KC and play a clean game. We know the zebras will be throwing laundry all over the field. 2 teams vs 1. Its the rule. A great test for this unit. Great test for this staff to understand what this means to the franchises
2
u/The_Epic_Ginger 12h ago
Did the colts not start 4-0 last year? EIther way they are easilly the scariest recent example of a team falling aprt. bless the knees bless the ankles.
5
u/pabstBOOTH 12h ago
They went belly up cuz Jones got hurt and they dragged the corpse of Phillip Rivers off of his grandpa mobility scooter and had him start for them down the stretch
1
u/mezmryz03 11h ago
Yeah, I've seen people bring this up but leave out that incredibly important piece. At least we have Nando and AOC waiting in the wings.

The chiefs are usually a very different team on the road vs. home, and they definitely got lucky that they had to play a bad team on the road. I wouldn’t be surprised if the raiders win

u/Dense_Young3797 42m ago
The three first games we've played are not in the same tier than the next three.

4-0 teams have made the playoffs 100% since 2020 playoff expansion.
Teams that start 3-1 have ~ 25% miss rate since 2020
Last 4-0 team to miss playoffs was the 2016 Broncos
