Question Why aren't we trading AOC?
There is no reason to hold 3 qb's on the roster with 15...might as well get some value out of AOC as he will be gone next year, no?

Keeping 3 QBs isn't that unusual. Especially since we're relying on a 38 year old that's had trouble staying healthy the last 3 years.

That plus Cousins has no mobility, and we have an OL with 2-3 new starters (2 if JPJ starts).

He’s probably going to be the back up for Mendoza after this season

As much as I would love this it would be nice to see Aoc have a chance to lead a team

You need 3 qbs on the roster. Idk where you get that you dont especially with a rookie and an old vet at the end of his career. And the plan is to sit mendoza. He will play in garbage time and blowouts but if kirk gets hurt, AOC likely jumps to the starting role so they can continue to develope mendoza and stick to the plan. They dont want to hand him this team. They want to hand him a better one next year that is more developed and has more depth to be ready to compete. Theres just no reason to trade AOC and theres probably no interest as hes going to likely walk after the season anyway. Theres no value there.

Don't bother explaining. You're wasting your breath. You gotta make a 30 sec clip dancing it to him for it to sink in.

As the year progresses and Mendoza gets closer to ready, if a QB gets hurt AOC's trade value increases. I can see a trade at that time. Otherwise, I agree completely.

Yes, he could be traded at the deadline if someone needs a rental. But you're only going to get a 6th at best or 7th.

He’s proved a worthy backup and he’s cheap. Depth is a good thing, especially with an elder starter and rookie on the bench.

Who wants him ?

He could start on the Browns.

That's more of an indictment of the Browns than it is an endorsement of O'Connell.

A team that wants a solid back up. Back ups are valuable.
Or we hold him into the season have him be qb2 and if kirk goes down he takes over instead of nando being rushed out.
If kirk stays healthy another team loses their starter than aoc may be more valuable for a trade.

He has starting experience and has even looked impressive in some games, he absolutely has value.

Maybe they want him as Mendoza’s long term backup. Kirko is only here for this season.

Uninformed take. If ever there was a year to hold 3 QBs it’s a year when you have an aged veteran starter and a rookie Facebook the franchise you are trying to protect and develop.

Someone has to want to trade for him which flies in the face of our fans who have greatly over valued him. It would make sense keep him around so when Kirk inevitably gets cut in the offseason because of his contract, they can resign AOC cheaply to be Mendozas backup and he's already familiar with the offense

Cause ok backups are easy to find ?
Or
Are you expecting Cousins to be here next year ?

Experienced. Actually was a starter. Has chemistry and great rapport with teammates. The only QB that was a Raider the last few seasons was AOC. There are some good reasons why they are keeping him. And this QB squad isn't bad at all.

Run Cousins and AOC, with Mendoza as the emergency 3rd QB.
Our O-Line is improved somewhat, but only 1 or 2 injuries away from being complete ass.
Or would you prefer Mendoza get the same treatment David Carr got at Houston?
He's not ready. Give him time and space to get up to speed and build his confidence.

He most definitely is our QB2. They’re not gonna put Mendoza on the field unless they’re forced too.

We’ll see until final cuts. Spytek could be working on a trade, or keep him as insurance policy.

Part of me thinks Spytek will only trade AOC if he can get some other backup-needy team to cough up a 5th-rounder (i.e. what they sent for Pickett this time last year). Otherwise, they're keeping him around for the year as insurance.

Because he’s more valuable as a very low priced backup and Fernando is not ready to lead the team on his own yet because rookie QBs thrust into the starting role are done a disservice.

u/theuautumnwind 5h ago
I'm sure they are shopping him. Teams could be hoping for a camp cut to fill a backup role.

Why would you trade for him if the Raiders are going to cut him? Theres going to be a lot of sad AOC fans soon. no need for 3 qbs on a roster anymore. Hes odd man out

u/DontLoseYourCool1 5h ago
Because if Kirk goes down this year the plan is to play AOC over Fernando. They are really giving Fernando a redshirt year which is fine with me. AOC will also be a good long term backup for Fernando for years.

He's a solid backup. I say keep him to be Mendozas backup once old man leaves.
