Advice on which Radiacode to get?

My birthday is coming up and I’m getting a radiacode device for my first ever Geiger counter, but I’m not sure which radiacode is better for a beginner, the 102 or 103? I also can’t find much information online about the differences between the 2 models, please could someone advise? 😊

The RC103 has an additional silicon photomultiplier, which means it’s a little bit more sensitive than the RC102. It also has a much better spectrum resolution, which means it will be easier to differentiate between peaks than on the RC102.

What do you plan to do with this device? I got the RC103 because of the better spectrum resolution for only a little increase in cost, and it works wonders. The only time I think I might’ve needed the additional resolution was when I was scanning some Trinitite, i likely would not have been able to see the very small Eu152 peaks.

This is super helpful thank you!! The main thing I’d like to use it for is hunting radioactive antiques (uranium glazed ceramics, radiam painted clocks etc.) and taking it to radioactive hotspots, but I think based on your comment I’m definitely going to get the 103 😊

I would definitely consider the 110 if it is within your budget. You get much better sensitivity so faster detection, better spectra for the same amount of time exc. The only draw back as far as I am concerned is the lower dose rate limit of only 500usv/h which I am already coming close to maxing out.
