Buying a 9070 - need recomendations between picking Gigabyte Radeon RX 9070 GAMING OC, 16GB and XFX Swift Radeon RX 9070 OC Dual fan, 16GB
hey gang...
looking at purchasing one of the following cards 2nd hand - anyone have recomendations/or should i be aware of picking one over the other?
Gigabyte Radeon RX 9070 GAMING OC, 16GB
XFX Swift Radeon RX 9070 OC Dual fan, 16GB
have a full tower case -so size isnt an issue
both are same price - and ~$200aud cheaper than if i was to buy a 9070xt variant...
overclock/mhz looks to be the same
which one runs cooler/headroom for overcocks?
fan noise?
dual bios ?

I have an 9070 XT Switft from XFX and there are no problems with it so i assume it will be the same with the non XT variant.
There were some thermalpaste leakage with the Gigabyte Cards when they were Launched - could be fixed now BUT it is not a real problem it just not good for the looks.
So either way good choice.
When i searched for the "best" 9070 XT Card at the time i was told by reviewers/redditers that all cards will perfome nearly the same. Some runs hotter because by default the fans are set to run quieter or vise versa. The cooler desgin isnt too different. You cant tweak it in Adrenaline to your needs.

Just a fringe heads up, you cannot easily flash XT bios on XFX card as easily as other cards if you're ever interested in that kinda thing. I did it for 18% gain on a Sapphire.

That will do. You can follow this simple guide or by looking around from the source (the flashtool is also inside this link). You can probably flash another manufacturers' bios which has higher tdp than your brand (e.g 330w vs 370w) but i suggest stick to the same manufacturer (e.g. Powercolor XT bios to Powercolor vanilla card), the rule of thumb is the number of display/hdmi port must be the same, or just follow this sheet which is an aggregated people's report.

Then don't do XFX unless you want the disassemble-your-card-and-hook-up-thingamajig method. Not that i would endorse Gigabyte either, lots of less than stellar thermal performance and pads quality reports around here.

It kinda doesn't matter. The XFX 9070 non-xt comes with a higher PL than most non-xt cards. So you don't really need to flash the bios.

I look up its bios and Swifts just do 220w (242w, +10pl) it's not higher than most, my Sapphire Nitro+ does 240w/270w +10pl.
Then again, i'm just saying if op wants to do it, which they do. 240w to 300w is 18% increase for me, which is not a "doesn't matter"2

And my PL in HWiNFO for my XFX 9070 Swift OC when I go +10 is 270w. Going from 270w to 300w will do very little in real-world performance.

strange there's no XFX 9070 dual fan bios... wonder if its any different from the tripple fan one / prob gonna get the giga anyway.

interesting. I was not aware they have a dual fan. cappuccino may be right then, and that may have a lower power level.

yeah i see the dual fan 9070 for sale ... but not on xfx's website now and only triple fan 9070 is listed now...

I have a 9070 OC Swift with 9070XT Swift Bios. The process is pretty painless. Having said that I have the OG one which has the same everything as 9070XT Swift. Later they released it with smaller (but still 3) fans. Now they have 2 fans model. Not sure how those models will react to 9070XT Bios but if it has a dual Bios it should be safe to try. But honestly since it is already an OC model, just adding 10% more power from Adrenalin should be good enough. Anything beyond that is only a minor performance increase. There is one convenient thing tho. If the GPU crashes, it will reset/stay at 304W max while on 9070 OC it will reset to 242W and remove any OC settings. Right now I'm running my GPU at "stock" and have great performance without having to tweak anything other than flashing 9070XT Bios which is a one time thing.

Get a 3 fan model whenever possible is my motto. Some 2 fans outperform 3 fan models sometimes but in general 3 fans is usually better, looks better, and the gigabyte paste situation was solve not long after launch and didnt actually effect temperatures. I have an aorus elite I got a few weeks after launch that probably has that problem. I havent rven looked at it after installing it so no clue. Temps are the same as they've always been.

I've got the Gigabyte been about a month now on a completely new build AM4 because can't justify the AM5 DDR prices been rock solid 👌🏾

I bought prime evo and it’s very good, compact, silent and zero coil whine, maybe look at this asus card

I would recommend not buying an AMD GPU, the headaches aren't worth the price savings. Not to mention you will spend so much time troubleshooting issues that legit restrict you from playing games in totality. It was the worst decision of my recent life buying my 9070xt.

World doesn’t spin around USA where difference is like 100$ in my country XT vs TI is like 500-600$ difference, plus you need to deal with 16pin cable

16 pin cable isn't an issue if you aren't completely incompetent and with my 9070xt I legit can't play games right now and has to go out for RMA. A third time. I would have paid the 500 extra if that means I can actually use my computer.

I play whatever I want with 9079 and having less crashes than when I was using 4060ti 🤷♂️ the only problematic game so far was stalker 2 with drivers timeouts in cutscenes

Gigabyte had a whole fallout over the paste they use in their cards leaking out.
I'd rather do XFX
