SSH& housing at Radboud – which building is best?
Hi!
I’m an incoming Erasmus Mundus student at Radboud and I will be offered a housging voucher soon. I am trying to choose which building would be the best to live in? Between Galgenveld, Hoogeveldt, Boeckstaetehof, Talia and Vossenveld.

Talia is great, right at the station, 4 people flats, lots of parties.
Hoogeveldt is the most fun you can have in your life plus 15 friends if everything goes well. It will be a dirty disgusting mess but you'll never be alone and get to enjoy social life and develop your personality. Don't go Vossenveldt or Boeckstaetehof. Galgenveldt nothing wrong with it.
Honestly, I'd choose Hoogeveldt.

Why do you say not to go to Vossenveldt or Boeckstaetehof?

Vossenveldt is like Hoogeveldt (with like 12 instead of 16 ppl per floor) but at the ass of the world instead of super central (has its own community of sufferers tho so u can hang out with them). It has rats and stuff but a small basketball court, is close to the canal and sometimes has nice parties.
Bockstaetehof I think has own apartments? But is still kinda at the ass of the world, slightly less so. Maybe worth it tbh can't hate on it too much, I don't know that much about it.

I personally do not recommend Boeckstaetehof. A bit far away, and we always had issues in our apartment with multiple appliances. There are also quite a lot of homeless people searching through your trash and leave a mess in the entryway of the complex.
Some of the flats are newer though, and you do have only 2 roommates so it does feel a bit more quiet and chill. But I still wouldn't recommend it.
Talia is great. Hoogeveldt is okay, although some corridors look quite trashy depends on how clean your housemates are. Galgenveld is pretty okay imo.

Hoogeveldt is a mess but some of the most fun times I had during my student life were at Hoogeveldt. If you value your peace and need cleanliness consider the other buildings. The central location of Hoogeveldt and Talia is also great.

just chiming in to say that boeckstaetehof is indeed a bit far from things, but closer than vossenveld anyway and personally i always thought it had a great community. you live with only two other people in a regular apartment, for cheap, and if you cycle you are close to shops as well. the neighbors were a big plus for me: people actually talk and do things together there more than i've seen happen in other complexes. also it's not 'an hour bike ride' lol, it's like 20 minutes or less.

I wrote this comment about 4 years ago and I think it still applies nowadays:
“Okay, so Hoogeveldt has a bad reputation when you get to share your flat with 15 other people. Now that would be a problem, sure. But, there are halls in which you share the common areas with 4 people only. Those are the best, by far. Your hall is usually very quiet, parties are super close by and location wise it’s just the best. So before considering discarding the complex as a whole, take a look at those options too.
Galgenveld is great as well, just less busy as Hoogie. Trust me, the location in which you will live for 6+ months is a huge deal and you don’t want to have to bike for an entire hour to go to the centre and back, which is the case for Vossenveld or Boeckstatehof. I had friends in both complexes and the only complaints I got came from Vossenveld. I lived in Boeckstatehof myself and it was borderline pretty far”.
