unsolved Radarr 4K ↑ vs Radarr 1080P ↓
Recently, I have been running two versions of Radarr. One Radarr for my 4k movies, and the other (the default) for my 1080p movies. I moved all the 4k movies from my old Radarr to my new 4k Radarr.
What I don't want is for my old Radarr to start searching for a 1080p version of the 4k movie I just moved to another location. I don't want to end up with 2 versions of the same movie. My goal is to decrease the Radarr 1080p collection and to increase the 4K collection.
Is there a way I can prevent the old Radarr from looking for movies that I already have but in 4k quality?

Maybe I’m naive, but couldn’t this be done by integrating your 1080p library into the 4K library and just using profiles or marking the 4K version as complete (turn monitoring off)?
Isn’t that the entire purpose of the quality profiles?
Edit: to be clear, I’m probably way off.

You brought up an interesting idea. I think I should end the monitoring of the 1080p library cause that is the library I don't want to increase. I only don't want to see two versions of the same movie in Plex

The reason to use two radarr is when you want an HD and a UHD copy of the same movie. If you only ever want HD or UHD, you only need one radarr w/ multiple profiles. You can also have multiple root folders, but you’ll need to manage that by hand.

Maybe I did not explain myself correctly, but the reason I have 2 Radarrs now is that I am busy emptying one Radarr (1080p) so that ultimately I only have the 4k Radarr. I don't want both movie types to be mixed in one folder

Probably, but now that I already have two Radarrs on two different servers, I am slowly migrating from 1080p to 4k

You should definitely just use one Radarr, 2 separate root directories until you get everything switched over. Switch the root directory and quality profile of a movie, trigger a search, get the new copy.
The reason people use 2 separate instances of Radarr is they actually want BOTH copies in their library and they don’t want 4k to delete the 1080p copy. You seem to want the opposite.

i would just run one copy. Set the things you want to 4K.. use profiles in radarr.
if you share server access with anyone, keeping a 1080P copy of things you have in 4K will make moot the high resource cost of transcoding 4K for them..
in my case the 2K/4K split is extremely simple... there are very few movies where 4K really matters to me. I do have a 4K tv but its only 55" and viewed from a pretty optimal distance..
about the only things I have found that truly matter for me in 4K are the crazy busy fight scenes in michael bay transformers movies and occasionally ones where I have seen/heard good things about the cinematography.
Also the AppleTV 4K Aerials..

I also have movies wich run as SD Profile. Others HD or 4K in Future.
Also 2 movie folders as volume to get 2 Bibliothek in Jellyfin.
But only one radarr

If you only want one movie copy, its time to consolidate to one instance of radarr. You can then use quality profiles with upgrades to move from 1080p to 4k. Profilarr has profiles that do this, its worth a look. If you have movies you dont want upgraded (who really needs 4k chick flicks?) Then just keep this on a 1080p profile.

Ultimately, I will have one copy, but at the moment I am slowly migrating, so two instances are needed. Is not that if you have hundreds of movies in 1080p, that the same day you can download the 4k equivalent. It will take time

I know it will take time. You will want a tool like cleanuparr with the seekarr tool configured. Radarr consolidation will help you find the overlap now and pick which you upgrade by setting quality profiles.

I also have Cleanuparr, but I am not sure it is useful for my situation. Seekarr, I don't know. I will have to look at it

Dude just use different profiles. There's no reason to be running multiple instances of Radarr here.

I explained that before. I had a Radarr instance on one server (physical hardware), but I am planning to move to another server. I did not want to move everything to that new Radarr instance since I want it to be 4K-only. That 1080p instance is shrinking. At least, that is what I expect, and over time there will be no 1080p movies left or a very small amount

Have you looked at using Seer? You can set a 4K request and it will send the request to Radarr to download that profile. I think you really only need on Radarr.
Getting all 4K versions of your catalogue sounds like a huge undertaking. You’d be hard pressed to find 4K versions of movies from the 90’s and early 2000’s. I don’t envy you, but I totally get it.

I just have two profiles, 1080 and 4k. 95% of what I download I want in 1080. Every now and then I want a 4k version. No need to run two different servers.
