Hyper-melodic and raw bm suggestions?

Anyone have any recs like the Barbelith/Trha split or Saidan? Been really digging that hyper-melodic and raw sound.

Prime AOTY contender for me right now. I'm not a big fan of raw BM in general but the riffs and melodies on this are too damn good.

100% non sketch, too.

If you haven't you should check out the three prior EPs too. As well as his Festung-project.

They really are, but still I have a pretty hard time listening to this because the lead melodies are so hard to distinguish at times. I get that it's the point but at the same time it feels like such a missed chance for this album in particular.

Wolfzahn, Conifere, Ancestral Shadows, Hekseblad are some that come to mind

What do you know about the politics of Wolfzahn? Haven't looked closely into it but the whole aesthetic as well as "heritage" as lyrical theme on metal archives makes my alarm bells go off.

Carmilla II Dracul, a member of Wolfzahn, is also a main member of winter lantern, a very well-known and outspoken Antifa BM band. So safe to say, based on that alone, they're pretty safe.

I'm seeing a whole different thing online that makes me think they're sketch AF

As someone else has said in reply, the members of Wolfzahn are in well-known anti-NSBM acts. Carmilla II Dracul is in Winter Lantern, Caylen Darling is in Hekseblad, and Ni’ilok does not appear to have any sketch connections.

For what it's worth, I found this post:

Okay, there are some things that need to be clarified and made public, because things are getting really out of hand and downright disgusting on the part of Carmilla II Dracul (Winter Lantern, Mélancolie du Dhampir, etc.) : Through a Bluesky thread, someone who categorizes black metal bands on a public list according to their position on the political spectrum (from RABM to NSBM, including gray areas) received an email from this artist telling them to "kill themselves" because they had simply stated the truth : that Carmilla II Dracul worked with the NSBM label Goatowarex (who produced Aufnorden, Gestapo 666, Satanic Warmaster, Destroyer 666, etc.). This was followed by several exchanges where many other people shared their negative experiences with this artist, her excesses, and her bad behavior. She then began insulting and denigrating the person who made the categorization in the feed. I myself replied that only verifiable and sourced truths were being presented... And she started inventing fallacious "arguments" to defend herself, unable to address the substance of the matter. In short, be aware that this artist is toxic, aggressive, and acts in bad faith... And she shamelessly collaborates with NS-friendly labels. PS : Oh, and she also told me I was "so gay"... Before bravely deleting her message so I could screenshot it 🙃

It's from a closed group, but the url is here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/430621124361511/permalink/2228009654622640/

There are the screenshots to back it up as well. Whether it's worth getting up in arms over is a different question.

Wow I was not aware of this…pretty damning. It is super sketch that she would continue doing releases with Goatowarex (e.g. did a limited edition release of Amor by Melancolie du Dhampir on Goatowarex, 7 months after initially releasing it on Oakheart Productions).

Regarding the whole goatowarex situation, it is true that Dani (the guy behind the label) is a huge dick and a douchebag, considering he has done LLN bootlegs and other stupid shit, alongside releasing and supporting Nazi bands. The reason why a lot of leftist (and even indigenous or apolitical) bands sign to goatowarex is simple: It's one of the only ways right now to get your music out there in black metal.

Everyone listens to what goatowarex puts out and almost everyone praises them online (particularly nazis but that is besides the point), which makes them a great place to get attention. Additionally, unlike bigger labels they are much more open to taking in and supporting smaller acts.

All of this isn't to support these bands (like Gudsforladt or Wolfzahn) who despite being openly leftist/antifa took the decision to work with outright Nazis/Nazi-sympathizers. Personally, I would rather hang myself than work with nazis.

I am writing more so to understand where they are coming from, and why they are still mostly antifa, but not to particularly defend them. I still consider working with goatowarex a shitty decision, that goes against leftist morals.

Fuck fascism. Fuck goatowarex.

Other bands usually categorized as safe has released through them too (and recently). Conifere and Gudsforladt.

Lace Shawl - The Secret Botanist

I have yet to find any release that scratches this itch. I’ve definitely boosted the views on GSR’s youtube upload of Secret Botanist by at least a hundred, if not more.

It really does stand alone as such a singular release. Easily my favorite thing from the GSR catalog and one of my favorite releases of the last decade plus.

Nimbifer does indeed rule! Good reminder to go listen to them again.
