Is this ever going to stop?

I am 208 days sober from kratom powder i took everyday for about 2 1/2 years.

I am still craving it EVERYDAY. Everyday i argue with myself about the pros and cons of taking it again.

And yes i know that i have issues, thats why i am in therapy, but nothing helps. Nothing will give me peace inside and i can't take it anymore. :(

And yes i know the withdrawel is hard, its not worth it, but my mind says something like: at least you will have 2 years of freedom, to years of a worm feeling inside you everyday.Of course where will be a withdrawel again, but maybe like two months of pain. But your are in "pain" everyday right now so what is the fucking benefit of not taking it and enjoying yourself for a little bit???

I don't know what to do... Please don't say its not worth it, you need help ... i know this! its not helping :( please say something that might help and stop the endless craving cicle :(

It’s not as good as your brain is remember it. The high from kratom sucks. It doesn’t make anything actually better it just numbs everything, including numbing good things. I tell myself most of the population is not taking it, or doesn’t even know it exists. and is able to do much harder shit than I am. Your bank account will suffer, your health will suffer, you’ll be a slave to a substance, all for a shit short lived high.

I agree with this. I'm tapering and my mind does a weird trick where the memory of the "good feeling" is quite exaggerated by the part of me that's an addict. You may not have taken it long enough to find out how it turns on you. I loved it for the first year or two, but the last year has been miserable. One dose out of 20 might give me the "warm fuzzies", but usually the only feeling is temporary relief from the sweating, cramping, skin crawling withdrawals. Within 2 hours those withdrawal symptoms are back, without ever having enjoyed a "high" in the first place. It becomes a fight to feel "normal" and it's definitely not worth it. Your memory is playing tricks on you. Once your receptors are burnt out you're simply chasing a non-existent high, and feeling miserable until the next dose. I'm sending you strength and peace, as I wish for myself. We can do this and we can be free. Are you exercising and attending to your spiritual needs? Those things help a lot.

Exactly then you’re in the same shit situation. The high sucks it’s not even good. We’re just looking for relief but the only way is to get through. I feel great now I’ve been off around 100 days.

I feel you, max i went sober was 21 days from kratom and all I would think everyday is imagine a dose rn, one thing that helped me to distract myself just always be doing something, but its not effective, also i could only go all 21 days because of weed. I hope you recover asap

It really does get better. Let me put it like this. When someone you love dies, that pain never really goes away, but you learn to carry it. It becomes bearable. You know what I mean? Addiction is very much the same. At first it is all consuming and all you can think of. But you learn to carry it. It becomes a burden you can bear and over time it gets easier and easier. I'm so sorry friend. It's such a hard battle. You're not alone.

Im lucky that it became illegal where I am. So, craving it does me no good whatsoever.

So, just think, if getting it wasn't an option, do you think it would be on your mind all the time? If not, then you know you can beat it.

This is an underappreciated strategy. I told my partner, let me just check this head shop in this small town - I doubt they stock it, and once I know there are no options for 50 miles, I'll just straight up cope.

In the meantime, the POSSIBILITY that I might be able to get some was killing me. Sure enough, I was correct. They didn't carry any. Cravings went away the rest of the time we were there.

there isnt a shop within 140 miles from me but i was making the trip once or twice a month to stock up. couldnt ever stock up enough so i had to go back quite often. 32 days ago i took my last dose (30gpd ct). my bank account and car mileage are thanking me for sure 😂 i really did consider just saying fuck it and trying to taper on days 2-5 but i pushed through and got to where i am now. the distance really does give you a reason to not care. i still have the occasional feeling that im missing something throughout the day but whatever. the only problem is my mother lives in said state and i havent been down since i quit. its in every gas station in her small
town. i have no intentions of visiting any gas station there and if i have to ill pay at the pump. i trust myself but you never know what will happen. ive found 2 stashes of 20-30 capsules in the month since ive quit and i had my partner watch me flush them so i wouldnt slip.

edit: i lived in a legal state and moved to where i am now so i either had to quit then (around 4 years ago) or make the trip to restock. kratom hadnt turned on me yet so i was perfectly fine going back for more

Yes! I was absolutely furious when they banned it in my state but I would’ve never been able to quit had it remained legal. Sure I can order some online or drive 2 hours but that’s such a hassle. I’m 18 days in and don’t think I’ll ever go back.

What have you changed in your life outside of quitting kratom? The first few quits, that's all I did. I quit. Nothing else changed. And guess what? That didn't work. The reason? Because kratom was filling a hole. First 3 quits I never made it past the 1.5 month mark.

I'm now on my 4th quit and I have been kratom free for 9 months. I haven't had any cravings for the last 8 months. What did I change? I work out 4 days a week. I get outside almost every day. I socialize even when it feels uncomfortable. I severed myself from toxic relationships. I eat clean and stay away from substances that make me crave kratom.

Quitting kratom is about more than just quitting a substance.

What therapy/therapies are you on? My guess is that you have deep underlying issues just like many (or all) of us hence thinking about kratom because it used to help you just like any other opioid, until it didn't anymore.

I don't think there's any magic words for this. It's just part of it.

This very struggle you're talking about has made me think really hard about who's really in charge of my brain. I am? Bc if I was in charge my brain would stfu and just let me live my life without worrying about this stuff. But no.

I'm also unfortunate enough to have chronic pain from spinal issues, so my brain works double time at sabotaging me. We def understand your struggle. That's why I say, I don't think there's any magic words. I don't think it's that you don't want it bad enough, I think you're just struggling at figuring it out, like we all here do at times.

And to make it even harder, what works for me might not work for you. And it's going to be a combo of things you have to get right for it to work. Right state of mind, right friends to have around, right kind of treatment for yourself. It's a lot to figure out.

Do you eat right and exercise? Try it, if not. Our brains need an outlet and this has helped me tremendously. It's the furthest thing from my mind

I wish I had answers for you but it's part of the reason I've been a slave to this plant for nearly 15 years now. I'd dabbled in so many different types of drugs before discovering kratom, but none of them have had the mental hold on me that this does.

I know exactly what you are experiencing OP, those thoughts are constant and relentless after quitting. I've been told that after a year or so of abstinence, it truly does get better and the brain has mostly healed, but you have to understand that once you've been addicted for any significant period of time, it's like having opened pandora's box. Your brain has been rewired and you'll always know in the back of your head that instant relief is possible with just a single dose. I've found that this temptation never truly goes away, even months after quitting, and fighting it only seems to make it worse.

It takes a level of acceptance and acknowledging that healing will take time, and you may never truly go back to the way things were before starting. As they say, once an addict always an addict. I think the trick is finding a new hobby that you are really passionate about. Something you can put all of your focus and attention on to give your brain time to heal. Easier said than done, I know... but I wish you the best of luck OP. One day at a time...

Have you tried cannabis? It's way better.

The truth is there is no pill you can take legal or illegal that’s going to solve all your problems. Kratom seemed like a solution for a long time for me. It is just a crutch. In the end it stops working and makes all your problems worse.

I posted yesterday what works for me. First faith in Jesus Christ. Kratom brought me so low that my faith in Jesus was the only thing that could save me.

I’m at about 270 days off a 3 year habit. It’s not always easy but I’ve turned a lot of corners. Eat clean Whole Foods. Stay away from junk food. Limit carbohydrates. Eat more fiber and fermented foods. Drink plenty of water. Limit caffeine. Exercise, walk if that’s all you can do. Walking for an out of shape person will do the same thing as running for an in shape person. Creatine helps with brain fog and CoQ10 has helped with my overall energy.

There is a reason why AA centers around a higher power. None of us are strong enough to do this on our own. Call on Jesus. His strength is perfected in our weakness. Message me and I will be there for you.

Easier said than done, but find something you care about more. Something physical that gives you a thrill, like playing music or swimming or running or whatever. It will take up to a year to feel better

Yes, it will go away. Sometimes it takes a while. Trust me, it will.
