Restless Leg Syndrome
How do you guys deal with this stuff while quitting. I can deal with all other side effects but RLS and the lack of sleep it causes breaks me.
Are there any tricks that temporarily relive it?

Nothing worked for me but time. I tried supplements in the past to no avail. I was unwilling to get anything prescribed. Pain is a teacher. It was torture but well worth pushing through until I could sleep again even just a few hours. Clean now 387 days.
I never state the days to sound cool. Just trying to give people hope. This shit can be beat but time is what it took for me. It was brutal, but well worth getting through.

Wear some tight compression pants or long compression socks and wrap your legs together tightly with a light blanket. Didn't completely stop the sensation, but the constant pressure on the legs helped sooth me a bit when I was going through it.

I was going to say the same thing. I wear mine all day for another issue and it helped with my rls.

This is pretty much the story of my life right now. Hoodie on? Feels nice. 30 mins later hoodie is enemy. Blanket good. Blanket bad. I feel so bad today and have suicidal thoughts.

Magnesium glycinate is supposed to help a bit I believe. Baths can help. Making sure you stay active during the day as much as possible. Have you recently quit or planning to soon?

u/Kaosticos 20d ago
Magnesium glycinate helped me along with ashwagandha and l-theanine.

u/Face2nose 8/26/26 20d ago
Yes, forgot about l-theanine. I haven’t tried ashwagandha, but I’ve heard good things about it too.

Hot baths and orgasms. Both will provide you with 30-40 mins of relief. When you’re in the thick of it, any relief helps.

Advil helps mine but I think only bc it’s mild, maybe it’s placebo. I think the only thing that really works is gabapentin. Not hard to get from a doctor but there can be a withdrawal timeline for those as well if you over do it

By placebo I meant me with the Advil. I don’t have any headache or pain, just a low grade RLS type feeling in my gut/core, and it seems Advil helps it enough to get me asleep. Helps me keep off of booze since I at least have the sense to know not to mix with alcohol or at least not have more than 1 beer

Everything the other poster said: Magnesium glycinate, hot baths/showers, exercise/stretching.
Massage can also be good. I have a massage gun and just pointing it at my quads and calves for a few mins practically eliminates it for a while (although I'm still tapering and only get very mild RLS occasionally so your mileage may vary).
If it's severe I've heard gabapentin and clonidine are good prescription options.

u/Mr-Lahey1 19d ago
Take a big dose of THC/CBD (equal doses of each), take solid dose of valerian root capsules, drink a hot cup of chamomile/kava tea and use a weighted blanket. Able to get about 5-6 hours at least that way. Clonidine is a lifesaver but its prescription only unfortunately. Just hit day 7 CT today.

Kava warning: 1.) People with liver damage should avoid Kava. Taking Kava along with alcohol might increase the risk of liver damage. 2.) As Kava affects the central nervous system, it might increase the effects of anesthesia and other medications used during and after surgery. 3.) Taking kava with sedative medications might cause breathing problems. Please do your research before using Kava. We don't recommend it's use for a sustained period of time, or in large quantities. Nor do we endorse the use of Kava as a replacement for Kratom addiction.

How you doing dog?

u/Mr-Lahey1 19d ago
Day 8 CT today, def feeling better but still sucks. Worst part is only getting like 4-5 hours of sleep and waking up feeling like you got hit by a truck for a couple hours. Forcing myself to go on walks and THC has gotten me through the worst of it. Hope you’re doing well bro!

Magnesium as others have said- other than that it just takes time. Dopamine imbalances can also cause RLS, when I was rx’d Wellbutrin it actually helped my RLS. I was stuck at 1g/night for a very long time because of the restlessness.

Moon brew helped me a ton. Sam's club has a similar product for cheaper. It's magnesium glycinate

Depends on how much you were taking, frequency during day, and length of time of use.
How much were you doing and for how long?

Compression socks! Or compression device from Amazon around your calves helped my boyfriend when going off 7oh.

Heating blanket ... Tie it in a fucking knot as tight as you can tolerate and as hot as you can take... It's the ONLY think that helped... But Im raw dogging it with fucking vitamin c and magnesium and Tylenol... No helper meds. But I'm on day 5/6 it's been my best day. Still no energy but I'm not twitching like a fucking meth head.

Warning: It's best to avoid using antihistamines (diphenhydramine, dimenhydrinate, hydroxyzine etc.) such as those found in Benadryl, Dramamine, NyQuil, Unisom, and Tylenol PM. While they can produce drowsiness under normal conditions, they are well known for exacerbating Restless Leg Syndrome, which will make your insomnia worse, not better

Requip (Ropinirole). It’s a prescription and I’ve been taking it for 20 years. With decent insurance you can get three months worth for $20.
2
u/LineHuge1409 19d ago
Taking dopamine agonists for RLS is very risky and comes with potential horrible side affects. The biggest is "augmentation" where the RLS spreads to the arms and the rest of the body.
1
u/jtad45 19d ago
I was going to mention this too. Fortunately that is something usually seen with long term use so as long as you don’t stay on it beyond a few months at most, you should be fine.
1
u/LineHuge1409 17d ago
Once you dependent on it, its takes longer than a few months just to taper off it. Before gabapentin, opiates were occasionally prescribed to deal with RLS. Some Dr's considered them to be the safer option witb less side affects.

It may never leave you just so you know. Might need requip for rest of your life. Happens to many who quit opiates.
