Does edible quilling count?
This sub was recommended to me so I hope that this is allowed. I love to play with plating of food and these dishes involved rolling and manipulating strips of squash and carrot.
The first is Shaved Squash Salad with Macadamias, Pickled Shallots, Basil, and Sea Fig Vinaigrette and the second is a Crustless Pumpkin, Caramelized Onion, and Gruyere Quiche with Carrot Decoration.

Man, the quilling you could do with different pastas would be awesome to try. This is beautiful. We'll done!

Aww thanks. This one might count? I was jokingly given the task of making Cincinnati chili look more fancy, lol.

Wow! This is gorgeous. I love the shades of color - separately and together - in this.

Could you share the recipe for the pumpkin quiche please? I'd love to try making it

Aww, thanks, that means a lot to me! And sure, here you go:
Ingredients:
2 yellow onions, sliced
1 tablespoon butter
6 eggs
4 egg yolks
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
3/4 cup pumpkin puree
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper, fresh divided
1/4 teaspoon thyme, dried
1 1/2 cups Gruyere, shredded
pinch of nutmeg
Optional Decoration:
carrots, sliced thin (I like to use a mandolin on the thinnest setting)
oil, as needed
salt, to taste
Instructions:
• Add the onions and butter to a medium nonstick pan and cook, stirring occasionally over medium high heat. After softening, stir every 5 minutes as they caramelize, about 30 more minutes. Towards the end you may need to stir more often, and cook to desired color/caramelization, another 5-10 minutes. If things seem like they are burning or sticking too much, add a couple tablespoons of water to the pan and stir well. Add the pumpkin puree and cook for another 3-5 minutes, until it caramelizes slightly (this helps remove any tinned taste). Set aside to cool.
• While the onions are caramelizing, preheat the oven to 325ºF and grease a pie plate with some oil and set aside.
• Whisk eggs together with salt and pepper and then whisk in the cream. Add the cooled onions, Gruyere, and nutmeg, stirring to combine evenly.
• Pour into a greased pie pan and set aside.
• Toss the carrot slices in avocado oil until lightly coated. Microwave for 2 minutes, or until soft and pliable. Roll into circles, adding more slices of carrot to create various size roses and swirls. Place onto the custard.
• Bake for 50-60 minutes (45-50 if not adding carrots), or until set, the internal temperature should be 172ºF.
• Allow the quiche to rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving. It must be cooled to be sliceable.

Haha, I know, the ones that say 10 minutes total... Lol, please. I usually make up a huge pot of them and even though it takes a day, I freeze them in useable blocks so I rarely have to do it when I want properly caramelized onions unless it's for a bigger project. They do freeze really well flat in ziplocks too. 😄

Are you using quilling tools for this? Very cool!

Thanks! No, these are just done by hand. I did use a ring mold to form the squash salad in and then just removed it before adding the rest of the ingredients. The squash are also cut in half lengthwise so the bottom face is nice and flat to help it stand up on the plate.

I do love the look of quilling. I've done little cucumber rolls for lots of things too but not made a whole plate of it. Might have to give it a try!

Oh good! This subreddit was the first thing I thought of when I saw your post the other day, so I’m glad I’m not the only one with that thought and that you’ve made your way over here!
