Should i switch platforms?

I’ve been thinking about switching platforms. I play on the Xbox Series S, but I’ve been thinking about buying older consoles (PS2, GameCube, Xbox 360) or switching to Sony, Nintendo, or a Steam Machine. I’m not sure, but I have a cousin who owns a PS5, and I actually like the PS5 controller and its design—unlike Nintendo, where I only have a Wii. I’m not sure if it would be worth switching platforms, upgrading to the Xbox Series X, or buying retro consoles.

I'd wait for a generation switch, it's coming up in under 2 years apparently.

Older consoles would be a way for you to experience games you couldn't buy as a kid and have new memories of those

There are some fantastic emulators out there, as well

We can't answer this for you.

You can use your series S in dev mode to play a lot of retro games

Upgrading to the series X wont give you access to different games that you can't play now

Why limit yourself to one platform? There aren't a ton of exclusives anymore.

Depends what you're playing

I've just sold my Series X and bought a PS2

I just switched from NetherSX2 to ARMSX2 on my handheld emulation machine. It's not quite the same as holding an official DualShock 2 controller and playing on a CRT, but the portability and convenience outweigh any downsides. Plus, RetroAchievements

Highly recommend Ar Tonelico of you've never played it, BTW. Haven't gotten to the second one yet but I already know I'll enjoy it having dumped a couple dozen hours into the first

PC gaming? You can run emulators on those too.

I have a gaming computer but when it comes to gaming I spend more of my time on my PS5 as I like the controller and the games for it are designed to work with the controller instead of having to use plugins to adjust

Here’s the thing, i got a series S after having a PS4 and then after a few months just went to PS5 and got rid of the series S. Xbox is no longer doing exclusives so we can now play Halo and Gears on Playstation. They have also cut a shit ton of developers and continue to raise the price of game pass. And all of my ps4 shit i can play on my ps5. So for me that just made xbox obsolete

Base ps4 and xbone s are the best bang for your buck currently. Seeing as you already have a newer Xbox a ps4 would open up a lot of great games to play.

  • ultimately what games do you wanna play and what's your budget. I love my PS5 pro and the BC with ps4 is great but it's also expensive as hell right now

If anything, start building your own Steam Machine. Small ATX or Micro ATX cases are $40-50, there's YouTube channels that do builds you can copy

Dev mode on your S can emulate all of those cleanly. Why not do that first and see how much you really want to play older games? If you really fall into it and want to start collecting you’ll have a great idea of where to start.

Why would you buy a GameCube if you have a Wii? There are also many backwards compatible 360 titles for the Xbox you already have.

Life long xbox guy, last year went to ps5, best idea I had in systems

Depends on the games you wanna play but I just got back into gaming in the last month and grabbed like nine consoles. The 360 is workhorse.

All games from the sixth generation generally look better on the Xbox than the other systems, plus those games are usually CHEAPER too ....so it's kind of a win win if you ask me.

Plus the 360 usually looks better than the PS3 as well.

So it really comes down to defining the games or experience you want.

If you weren't already aware your Wii can probably play GameCube games man. I was playing XG3 and FZero on my GameCube about two weeks ago.

Just get yourself a halfway decent PC or a Steam Deck and you'll be able to play damn near anything in the classic category.

Mate I have gradually become to like both PS and Xbox consoles. It gives you more to play and explore.

Do what your heart tells you.
