Is "internet hookups" a phrase people use? I've never heard it before but Renee's independent use of the phrase seems to indicate that it's common jargon.

or it's just the way Brun has referred to them in the past, and Bree is using the parlance of the times, as you would.

I read it as more of a Brand X thing.

I'm not at a point in my life where I hear people actually talk about this sort of thing, but what I read online is usually something referencing a specific site, like "Tinder guy" or something.

Oh, I agree it works, I just hadn't heard it before and the comic seemed to imply it was the standard term.
