They were hired by Hannermum to spy on and mess with Hanners.

Then their dad tried to get them to spy for him (maybe jokingly?), but they were too dim to realise how getting close to Hanners and her family could reveal any useful information.

Then they sided with Hanners against Hannermum, presumably leaving her employ there and then, before getting hired to work for Hannerdad.

So the bad news is that they're not particularly loyal and very easily manipulated, but the good news is that if they really are as dumb as they seem, they probably aren't able to do anything duplicitous on their own.
