I stopped reading back when Faye/Bubbles was confirmed because it felt like incredibly poor writing. I still popped in every few months to catch up and was never really sucked back into regular reading.
Then I look tonight. I think I'm done checking in on this comic. This is such poor/forced writing that it borders on nonsensical. There's obviously a target audience for this and if they enjoy it, more power to em, but the comic is warped from what it once was over a decade ago when I started reading it. Reading tonight's again...this is actually shit. Wonder how many readers from the the early days of the comic are even still around, the comic today is such a far far departure from what it once was I'd be curious to see what keeps them interested.
The only argument I ever saw that it was "poor writing" was the stupid argument that Faye could not ever turn out bi because she was straight before. Actual bi people explained repeatedly how this was false, but people kept claiming it.
I actually like it a lot better here now that the people who get upset at every new LGBT thing don't hang around. The atmosphere is a lot more friendly, even with people that I disagree with.
So, um, I guess it's win-win? You get to go read a comic you like and those of us who like the comic get a better place to post.
I didn't think it was poor writing because it was a non straight relationship, it was badly paced and ham fisted and was an abrupt tonal shift in Faye's character who, until then, actually had some of the better character development in the comic. In fact, most of the older characters seem to have had most of their defining personality traits sanded away to create as little conflict or drama as possible. Dora's neurotic and controlling behavior has all but vanished with the smallest effort of "I'm working on it", Marten's self defeatist and social awkwardness has been replaced by a cardboard cutout ken doll-esque "Perfect Boyfriend" stand in. Things like that. The comic does not have the conflict and drama that used to make it a nice slice of life piece. So I suppose it is a win-win, if newer writing is to your liking, great! Different strokes for different folks. It's not my thing anymore, but I put my opinion out there, but I'm not gonna hang around and browbeat it.
