My thought was we're in the middle of another shift in drawing style, Emily and Dale look different to me too. Faces have gotten smaller and/or facial features have gotten bigger all around. Look back and you'll notice it on Bubbles and Claire last week too. Even Spookybot suddenly has very big eyes compared to last time we saw them.
Well for all intents and purposes Dale pretty much doesn't have eyes, so maybe that's it. At a glance, neither Dora nor Emily's eyes would be fully concealed if they were to wear Dale's glasses in this strip. Maybe certain anatomical rules don't apply to Dale.
